New Bing Maps road Map Style now in Windows Phone 7.5 Mango

I’ve just noticed that the new Bing Maps Road Map Style layout that was introduced on the desktop version back in July is now showing up on Windows Phone 7.5 Mango. I don’t know if this is related to the newest Samsung Omnia 7 firmware or not but I definitely didn’t have it prior to that. So what’s the difference ? Well the new layout is a lot more easier on the eyes and includes several new improvements:

- Primary roadways are denoted in a more distinct color
- One way streets are more clearly marked
- Road shields are more visible
- Text labels are easier to read
- Traffic overlays are clearer and more defined
- Lots of other details to improve map readability

Let me know if you are seeing the same thing or if this is indeed related to the latest firmware (this would be surprising). You can download the full 9 page Guide about all the changes here.

Saw this earlier today. They must’ve flipped a switch somewhere.

This must be the new firmware because my Bing Maps still show the same crappy maps they’ve always shown. What I don’t know is if this is just a Samsung thing or if other OEM handsets have them.

I wonder if there are other changes or if it’s only this…

I now have them on my HTC Trophy. I haven’t gotten any new firmware since the official Mango release, so it doesn’t have anything to do with that.

Ive got a Trophy, and i see the new maps. Some people even especulate that it may be a Navteq/Nokia based maps (serbian users say that now, they see a lot of streets that the didn’t see before, and i see that in my second home in Norway, it shows a lot more streets)
