Update your Samsung Omnia 7 to the latest I8700XXKI3 firmware now

Here’s my little gift for you this weekend. I just managed to download the latest Samsung Omnia 7 I8700XXKI3 Firmware package wish was pushed out by SFR yesterday and I’m giving it back to you so you can manually update your device following the same instructions I posted a few days ago when the latest Samsung Mango firmware was pushed. Please remember that if something goes wrong you will be on your own. Words of advise before attempting to update your handset: If it doesn’t work you will most probably get two different error:

- 800705B4 : Time out error which happens on many Omnia 7 depending on how much free storage you have left. Solution: hard reset you handsets.
- 8018001E: There’s a conflict with the current bootloader on your handsets (happened to me with the latest Mango firmware): Solution: you are screwed. Roll back to a previous bootloader/firmware

Here are the instructions:

- Download the firmware here (remember that’s not the OS but only the firmware bits) then download the WPupdate tools from here.
- Unzip the Tools in a folder then unzip the firmware in the same folder as the tools.
- Plug in your device, wait until the Zune client starts and then close it.
- Run the the Updater and press S or B (depending on the size of your balls..)
- your phone will then reboot in download mode and update (don’t unplug it or do stupid things with your PC during the whole process..)

Report back if it works for you. If not then please take a look at all the messages in the previous post before posting.

You should end up with this:

OS Version: 7.10.7720.68
Firmware revision number: 2424.11.9.3
Hardware revision number:
Radio software version: 2424.11.9.1
Radio hardware version:
Bootloader version:
Chip SOC version:

Happy flashing and thx to Brave Soul for the tip even though it was just a few hours late ;)

Any noticeable changes? Would love to see changelogs on these revisions…

  • BucksterMcgee

^ this, and I’m expecting a similiar update for the Focus as well, to include things like internet sharing and proper compass support.

  • Dannythomas3

Just try it and it work, have not notice any difference yet….

  • Mr. Santos

Better call reception? Keyboard doesn’t suddenly disappear when typing a message? Is the phone more responsive, or faster? Better internet reception? Internet sharing enabled? Better compass support? Proper support for the allshare app? Keyboard not taking forever to show up, or at least showing up, when trying to enter text within a website, be it internet explorer or a in-app browser??

I don’t get it. People are telling us that they haven’t noticed any difference, then what’s the point of the new firmware and radio software? I haven’t downloaded this update yet, but from the looks of things I might as well wait for when Samsung decide to officially release as there doesn’t seem to be much difference.

Damn i have the bootloader error. Did you have it when you installed this rom ?
Last time I installed KH5 with your method and it worked without this error…

I take it, it’s not a clean firmware, by that i mean it will have the SFR carrier bootscreen etc ? Would love the new firmware but i would hate any branding.

  • Antmagpie

im getting error 8018119c. something bout background intelligent transfer service. any help?

  • johnnyg

worked fine for me – but took a lot longer than 10 mins – comparing it to the wife’s omnia on the old firmware , no notable differences I can see.. hopefully will cure the disappearing keyboard issue – but that was pretty random so will take time to decide.. only negative is that you have to switch the language/dictionary back to English ..

No SFR carrier bootscreen on mine.

I had the KH5 and got that error (as seen in the screenshot above). Had to roll back to an older bootloader to get it to work.

Is there a way to change the bootloader without flashing a whole ROM ?

  • Anonymous

Thanks MTW will give it a go.

  • Spinsoft

Thx! Everything went done (Omnia 7, unbranded).

Lucky you, it wouldn’t even begin to install for me, just got weird errors. :(

Is there a way to change to the old bootloader without flashing a whole ROM ?      my bootloader can not see the usb cable

  • Danny

Not all update will bring noticeable changes, could be small system fixes or perpartion for larger update.

  • Theeggtimer

This didn’t work for me.   Found a thread on xda-developers that pointed me to a .cab for my USA Focus that installed flawlessly.  http://download.windowsupdate.com/msdownload/update/software/dflt/2011/08/398404_i917attkh1_prod_mmcp.pks_65619f46fa9d49dbdf5f0038f2448742505f828b.cab

I used the B option, it backuped my Omnia 7 successfully, installed updates and sent restart… the problem is that the phon isn’t booting, I only see the Samsung Omnia 7 logo… do I have a brick now? any chance to restore it? The WPUpdate software can not connect to the phone anymore… I do not feel so very happy right now :(

solved it, got the phone into Download mode and then flashed it with XEN JK1 so now I have a factory resetted but working phone. :)

  • Danny

Is the firmware the same as this one

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=3002706 Bryce Eakin

When I try to run the update, I get the following error:”Error:Update device … Complete with error code: 8018001E, error message: IU (Image Update) installation failed on phone: File name conflict. Two or more packages in the update contain the same file.”I’ve looked at the logs and tracked it down to the OEM_8x50_OS_CAMERA.cab.pkg and SEC_CETUS_OS_APPS_OPEN.cab.pkg files in the cab that are conflicting. I know it’s probably the worst thing I could do, but is there any way I could get a version of the firmware file with those two removed? I don’t have the tools necessary to repackage the .cab excluding those two. Thanks for the great work.

  • John ‘Mango’ Doe

Successfully loaded.. Just to help others….

Mine was a T-Mobile Germany Samsung Omnia 7.

    First -> To Mango
    1) I first of all downloaded the Optus Australia Stock ROM from http://www.multiupload.com/6KLMN6QVIJ
(Remember to backup all your pictures/videos/application data (especially notes/lists) and most of all SMS’s
    2) Instructions are at http://wccftech.com/article/debrand-samsung-omnia-7/ Follow it to the Tee!! Just use the ROM from (1) above instead of the UK ROM in the wccftech instructions
    3) Once done, connect to Zune and patiently install all updates upto Mango and you’re done!

Now for the Update of Firmware from 2424.11.8.2 to 2424.11.9.3
    1) Download both files as listed in this page.
    2) Unzip all files from “WP7 Update Cab Sender” to “WP7 Update Cab Sender” folder
    3) Unzip SFR-FR to root of above folder
    4) Go to “WP7 Update Cab Sender” and install x64 or x86 file from “if needed install this tool”
    5) Go back to “WP7 Update Cab Sender” folder and run “WP7 Update Cab Sender.bat” as administrator
Please B to Backup and install..
    6) Wait patiently…

You should now have the latest firmware and OS!! Thanks MobileTechWorld!

Just flashed on unbranded Mango Omnia and I see nothing visible. Compass does not work properly, for one, and there’s no Wifi Sharing option visible.

When I run WP7 Update Cab Sender.bat is says CHOICE is an unrecognized command. How to proceed ?
    I put OEM.CAB file in /tools directory, correct ?
