Microsoft didn't pull the February Windows Phone 7 update for the Samsung devices

Just saw a report claiming that Microsoft has apparently pulled the February 21 update for the Samsung devices (Omnia 7 and Focus) because of the issue encountered by many users since the initial release nearly 2 days ago. Ironically I was attempting to update my Omnia 7 again when I came across the story so it kind of seemed strange to me that a Microsoft spokesperson would claim that the update is no longer pushed to Samsung phones when it is in fact not true (as seen in the screenshot above). Microsoft may have stopped the OTA notification push to the handsets that weren’t notified yet but nothing seems to have been pulled at all given that I still get prompted to update to the 7008 rom every time I plug in my device.

UPDATE: More than 24 hours after the initial statement my Omnia 7 is finally no loner prompted to update.

So, apart from that – did you manage to update your phone?

Nope failed again and I don’t feel like hard reseting it just for it (it’s the only way to get it to update ) so I will now just wait or the “fix” (if it ever comes out before nodo).

I’m kind of thinking of grabbing an omnia7 myself (maybe even today), but as i live somewhere where it isn’t officially sold it would be pretty bad if it got “bricked”.

What exactly happens if you try to update it, and is there a “cure” for every scenario with this update, or is there a chance it could be dead (even if its small)?

So far it has failed on me approximately 10 times at Step 7 and it never bricked the handset or anything. But, yeah you can’ t rule out the fact that it can be bricked for some odd reason. This should be something that prevents from buying it though as I’m sure that things will be sorted out (and hard reseting the handset will allow to update to 7008 so it isn’t like we are stuck or something) .

Android and iPhone had its own nasty growing pains. I like the Windows Phone 7 enough to be patient for a working update
