6 Bugs that HTC needs to address on the HD2

The HTC HD2 is currently one of the best and most advanced smartphone on the market, but like every new device it suffers from quite a few bugs that can irritate the end user:

SMS

The now infamous SMS “stuck in outbox bug” is probably what should be fixed a soon as possible. The HOTFIX released a few days ago doesn’t seem to have fixed the problem as far as I can tell.User who applied the patch still suffer from this and other who are running the 1.61 that supposedly already includes the fix) are experiencing this too. Some messages also show up with the wrong date and timestamp.

Volume rocker

The hardware volume rocker also suffers from some weird behaviour. When watching a video through HTC’s Album application (and YouTube app or listening to music through Sense) the on-screen overlay volume visualization (that lets you know your volume level) often disappears so you have to guess what your current volume is. Even worst, sometimes pressing up or down on the rocker will fast forward or rewind the video (or crash the device) or the music you are listening too. Soft-Resetting the devices is the only way to vring the volume overlay back.

Camera

Even-though a HOTFIX was released for the Pink camera hue/spot HTC can still do a better job because, so far it looks like the FIX doesn’t apply to videos captured with the device.

Radio / Cellular reception

As I stated in my review, the HD2′s Radio ROM suffers from bad reception in some areas and weird disconnections when the Data connection is active (other phones in the same area don’t exhibit these problems).

Screen sensitivity

Some users are complaining that the capacitive screen sensitivity is a little bit too high (you can find some CABs on XDA that can lower it) especialy when typing on the on-screen keyboard. It would be nice if HTC added a sensitivity option so users can choose between high/low sensitivity to meet their needs.UPDATE: Another bug related to the screen sensitivity is the strange jittering finger bug (I didn’t experience it on my device yet, but many users seem to be affected).See Dallis post in the comments.

Multi-Touch

The third-party applications pinch-zooming implementation (in file explorer, outlook etc) that HTC added to Windows Mobile can disappear and no-longer work for no apparent reason. A soft-rest of the device is the only way to bring it back.

Anything thing else I’ve missed? Don’t hesitate to comment.

Understandably this is HTC’s first capacitive device, but it seems like there’s alot of problems with other aspects of this phone other than the screen and it’s software implementation. All I read about are bugs and fixes. I’m eagerly awaiting the follow up to this device.

Well, it’s HTC’s first WinMo capacitive device but all of their Android device have been using capacitive panels.
Hopefully HTC will fix all the bugs I’ve listen.

Another bug with the HTC HD2. The touchscreen’s jittering finger bug.

Can we change the headline to read “7 bugs”?

    well…

sms works fine for me, am from India, with the preloaded 1.48 WWE…though there is the funny date/timestamp bug…happens rarely but does happen.,,,,

havent seen the multi-touch/volume rocker problem yet…

jitter sometimes happens in the contacts or while scrolling a mail…

but overall the construction is crappy also…though i love the smooth curves of the phone!!! and the GIANT screen

Anyone notice that the Snapdragon processor’s on-board video decoding is not working? All Snapdragons come with a hardware video decoder that can handle high-definition video, 720p resolution. But on the HTC HD2 it is there, but not operational. I’m suspecting that Windows Mobile is disabling the video hardware, because it probably doesn’t recognise it. Keep an eye out for other Windows Mobile Snapdragon phones and see if they exhibit the same problem. Also, I suspect that the Android Snapdragon phones will not have this curious defect.

Hello, I’m on 1.48 stock french ROM and I can confirm all these bugs except the outbox SMS bug which I haven’t exeperienced so far (one month since I use the HD2).

Another bug is a bug that could be called “Crazy HD2″, or “Ghost finger” :
When I end a call, or when I unlock my phone, the screen react like I was touching it everywhere on the screen on the mean time (nothing dirty to understand here…) and opens clock settings, outlook and other softs randomly. I almost cannot control it, and the only way to calm it down is to lock it. When I unlock it after this, the phone has a normal behaviour.

    Hi Amit,

If you havent purchased it yet, i ssy wait till March/April (dont know when they are releasing it) and see if HTC releases the 1 GB HD2…my guess is in that they would have addressed the hardware (camera) problem…any case in another couple of months, the price should be around 33k which is much better than the 37k i paid…(keep in mind that it went down to 35k by mid jan…)

you can’t make a call by typing the number directly into the phone (the keyboard is functional though). it seems that you need to add the contact and only then call. beside the smses not being sent, this is a major flaw
