HTC HD2 SMS Bug fix released

HTC Support
HTC has just released a hotfix for the SMS bug that many people encounter when sending a message on the HTC HD2(the sms gets stuck in the outbox). This update is only applicable to ROM version is equal to 1.49.XXX.X, or lower. I’m currently running the 1.61 that supposedly already have this hotfix and still have the SMS issue…

Update for HTC HD2 – SMS Function Update
This update for HTC HD2 messaging lets you reach out to your friends and family with instant notifications. Keeping in touch has always been very important, and this update delivers just that: fast and reliable SMS messaging.

What are the double pictures? I know it still has pink video (even after the hotfix). I would recommend against purchasing the HTC HD2 until the SMS bug is fixed… properly.

Hotfix does not work. When will HTC sort it? Surely it is illegal to sell a product that does not do what it is supposed to

this update shouldn’t be called a hotfix because it fixes nothing and wasted a few kb size on my memory.
By the time it gets fix, i will throw this phone away in the rubbish bin.

Used the sms hotfix, but the sms problem remains…
Text messages remain in outbox without being send and messages in Sent Item box mostly haven’t been delivered to recipients.

Nice work on the hotfix there HTC!

The same to me – even after SMS Hot Fix, I still have sms stuck in outbox. I want to get my money back. Also my HD2 hanged out completely one time. I’m using it less than 1 month. HD2 – not recommended ppl!!!

Boys and girls, the problem is in the settings. I got mine fixed after almost killing everyone in a 100meter radius.

Go to start, settings. Press menu -> all settings. Next connections. Advanced network.

Now goto the fourth tab “SMS Service”. Instead of GSM Preffered, put it on GSM. I know my country (South Africa) doesnt support GPRS sms’ing. I did this last night, and since I changed the setting my sms’s are working.

Hope it works for you guys too. Can’t believe they bring out a phone with so many bugs. It’s unacceptable…

The SMS hotfix has not worked for me either. Are HTC at least working on this? Also some of above ‘fixes’ may have simply worked because the phone has been ‘rebooted’ afterwards.

The only reliable way at the moment I have found to send an SMS which has got stuck in your Outbox [to check if they are stuck 'select all messages', then change folder from Inbox to Outbox] is to ensure you have signal then send another text. You can confirm this by going back to the outbox, you will see both the failed SMS and new SMS leave your outbox simultaneously.

It is also worth noting that if you press and hold a message in your outbox you get the option to resend it, the problem is it does not resend! Only a new SMS sent when you have network coverage seems to resend a failed SMS. Luckily I have an unlimited SMS tariff so I can just send myself blank texts to clear my outox.

Please Please Please HTC fix this issue – I have gone for your phone over the iPhone and not being able to send a simple SMS is a little embarrassing in front of my iPhone friends!!!

My solution is working for me now. I tested it numerous times and it seems to work. I even send sms’s to my own number (as a test) and that also works. Daniel’s solution also works, but its silly, since I dont want to monitor my sms’s all the time, if i press send, i want the recipient to receive my sms without me having to check if it sends/fails. HTC has to fix this. What I dont understand – I’ve had this phone for 3 days and I already discovered MANY bugs. If i (a normal civilian) can uncover these bugs within 3 days, how can they not pick it up in their design facilities? How can you NOT detect an sms bug before releasing a phone?

Rediculously pathetic. I had the S710 HTC before my HD2 – same story. Terrible phone. I promised myself never to buy HTC again, but when I saw the HD2…my word…eye candy, i couldnt resist

Anyway, please test my GSM solution and post if it works for you, I had to put delivery reports on (debug mode :) but if someone can prove that my solutions works for them as well, it would be great to know that the problem is fixed.

Almost 1 month after a placebo fix and they still haven’t solved the problem? I pissed off so many people because my ($700…what a joke) phone never “replied” to them. Setting sending to GSM doesn’t work either. As long as the signal is weak it will freeze in the outbox. If this persists for another week, I’m going back to my Nokia. Thank goodness there are some REAL phone manufacturers out there.

Oh did any of you try the alarm? Pisses you off when you miss a meeting when the alarm sounds only once and never repeats again, doesn’t it?

Everyone, HTC has been making nightmarish phones since the XDA. I’m doing my part to tell everyone I know about this problem and HTC’s lackadaisical post sales support. If you have a friend working in a magazine or internet review site, please tell them to give this phone no more than 2/5 in rating.

Geez…to think I traded in my iPhone for this POS!

I agree 100%. Alarm is useless. SMSing (the most basic phone operation) is not working.

This is my observation, every time I installed new application or run other applications. The sms will be stucked in Out Box, it collects there and without your knowledge some times it sent all out in one go, but it could be one day late.

The HTC SMS Fix managed to bypass the Out Box. Once you press Send, observe the SMS goes direct to Sent Item. But some times it does not actually send out the SMS.

The stuck sms problem seems to go away every time I do a Soft Reset. Remove the back cover and and press the red reset button.

If you have an important sms must be delivered make sure you soft reset your phone, it improve your chances of having it sent. It is crazy, but lets wait for the real fix.

Reset about twice a week and occasionally send sms to yourself or friends to test, it shall get you through the week days. When weekend comes and you have some time to ponder, BANG YOUR BALLS for choosing HD2 !

I was very disappointed that these bugs on such a good phone are not fixed properly yet as most of you have said the SMS text is the most simple application.
What i have resort to doing at the moment is i have ticked the box in the SMS setting to receieve a delivery report everytime i send a text, as i’ve notice that i will receive this report normally within 30 seconds of sending the text, i normally know when the SMS gets stuck if i send a text & get no report within approx 30mins, then what i normally do is power off the phone & switch it back on. If your lucky enough to have unlimited texts or dont mind losing a few then send yourself a text just to make sure its sending ok & you will also release any texts that are stuck sitting in your phone.
HTC need to get there act together on these bugs cause they aint working, i tried the recent ‘sim card’ one today & it doesnt even recognize the software program, how sad is that!!!!
This is a very good phone but it was rushed without proper testing, probably cause they had a deadline.

Mikee B – the sim card update includes a new radio rom so can only be applied when run from your PC through an activesync connection. To be fair to HTC the download page (UK) does instruct you to apply it that way.

I am no happier than anyone else about the sms bug but we should avoid muddying the water by mixing in complaints caused by not reading the instructions on a different fix.

I only downloaded this lastnight but so far my texts havent got stuck in outbox, but i will update this messege if it does.
Did anyone notice any changes at all to your SMS layout?
I have removed the first old hotfix & installed the latest one it took a while to install but after re-booting i did notice against each contact in the ‘All messeges’ list it shows in brackets how many texts for each contact also time & date together.
Glad to see EDU has comfirm his texts work ok, at least there’s hope!

Well sadly since my last messege yesterday afternoon, my outgoing SMS got stuck in the outbox again so the new updated SMS hotfix failed & all i was doing is replying to a text i received, its not like i was doing anything on the phone to make it get stuck in the outbox. I actually thought this was cured this time as there was some improvements. But i cannot understand how HTC work on these tests!!!
Surely they must soak test this with a few phones before sending this hotfix out???

None of the two sms fixes has worked for me in matter of the stucking problem. There was though a minor improvement on the second one in the matter of the time it takes to allow you to write an sms (before it had to load every single sms u’ve ever written and received with the contact before it allowed u to write a new one! Not everyone of us clear their sms’es every third day!). I realized that when the sms’es get stuck also at the same time the messenger won’t log on (neither by wifi nor mobile network), the e-mail won’t receive mails, the alarm often won’t work, and the music application won’t work properly. This could show that the problem is deeper than including only the sms application, which could explain why they haven’t been able to fix the sms problem yet cos they only focus on the sms bug…

I am very disappointed. After 2 days the SMS visited my new HD2 as well. Ive upgraded to the next official ROM. And it still persists. Seriously, this is unacceptable for a $700 phone. And yes, that “alarm” stinks as well. One time buzz? Not enough to wake me…
Please HTC, we know you can fix this!

Contacted HTC care, advised of a workaround – Disable HTC Sense. Seemed to make sense (no pun intended). Have no issues with SMS stuck for >24 hrs now. Not a perfect solution but at least a functional phone until the fix comes in. I hope the wait is well spent on increased test time for the fix!

The screen of my HD2 T8585, (Manila), after pressing the HTC Messaging icon is all black making it impossible to see what you are typing.
Does anybody else have this problem?
I will visit HTC customer care center in Hong Kong and would like not to be the only owner with this problem.

I wonder if this is the same sort of bug that I had with my HTC Touch. Recently changed the sim to a local one i.e from O2 in the UK to Mobifone in Vietnam. I had no problems at all using the O2 sim but with the Mobifone one it wouldn’t send SMS. Tried the same sim in my Nokia phone….worked 100%, so definately a phone problem.

Most of my local phone numbers are prefixed by +84 or 0084…..(as are all my UK numbers with +44….) Doing away with the +84 and just putting a single zero back on the front (for local calls)….problem solved, phone works ok now. Might be your problem, might not be. Just my 5p worth!

As someone mentioned above…the bug shouldn’t be there, whatever happened to R&D?

Most of my local phone numbers are prefixed by +84 or 0084…..(as are all my UK numbers with +44….) Doing away with the +84 and just putting a single zero back on the front (for local calls)….problem solved, phone works ok now. Might be your problem, might not be. Just my 5p worth!

As someone mentioned above…the bug shouldn’t be there, whatever happened to R&D?

    Hello,

It is UNACCEPTABLE to pay so much money for HTC HD2 and still face so many functionality issues.First of all, the battery is so poor that wont last a day without charging. The flashlight despite the update is still extremely bright and cannot possible use it to take pictures. I wont mention the problems Windows software have as I was aware of this before buying the phone.

Most important , ths sms problem is consistent.I am trying to send smss and sometimes they do get delivered but most of the times they go to the outbox section and stay there FOREVER. PLEASE somebody from the technical department reply to all us unhappy customers regarding this issue. Obviously your update does NOT make things better. If you cannot hold on to the reputation you have created, LET US KNOW.

same problem here in Malta (EU) I just bought htc HD2 and cannot receive SMSs after 3 days I bought the device. I installed the 24-01-10 hotfix to no avail. A very unprofessional way how to develop products from HTC … poor job and poor support.

Hotfix does not work. When will HTC sort it? Surely it is illegal to sell a product that does not do what it is supposed to

    Hi guys,

    DON’T PANIC…
    It’s not HTC’s fault.

After the version upgrade for this issue please contact to your “mobile operator”.
They renew your SIM card, and the problem is solved.
If the card’s technology is quite old, messaging problems may occur..

I’ve had this phone since early december 2009 and what started off as something nice and flashy has turned into an absolute JOKE!

SMS -> Yep same problems, Doesnt send texts (Not good when you are waiting at the train station to be picked up or else an hours walk home, workaround: Phone person to see if they got the message!
Phone Lock: Enter a simple passcode to get into phone- screen freezes, Workaround: Remove battery, power on, then it works!
Phone Lock 2: Password is incorrect, Workaround: Hard reset grrrrrrrrrrrr
Phone locks up: Nothing running, what the * is this phone doing?!? 1Ghz SnapDragon? My ZX81 ran quicker than this!
Phone locks up2: In Opera/Facebook just browsing, pull out battery and power back on (Sometimes terminating data connection works, not often)
Manilla crashes often, workaround: whack phone into palm of hand, pull hair out and start crying!
Had every update from HTC applied but after the last hard reset I’m getting fed up with re-installing them.
Phone obviously out of 28 day return period, 3 choices, 1) bite the bullet and send it back for repair, 2) accidently lose it (not a serious answer), 3) stick it on ebay and hope someone doesnt read all these links and they buy it (Works well when no contacts etc on it)
Then bite the bullet and get an iPhone 3GS or wait for iPhone 4

i am having problems sending sms’s….. and i am with go mobile. how do i fix d problem??

  • Sardopardo

Thankyou sooooooooooooooooo much, we have been working on this problem for months, We downloaded a fix cab for HTCHD Touch on XDA Developers that worked. I will send you the link tomorrow that I have on my computer. But this worked perfectly on an HD2 and am so grateful to you and happy to have finally resolved. I will send your message to HTC support which I spoke to ten times and the only thing that they suggested was to do a soft reset. All the best to you
    Bless You!
