Official Twitter app for Windows Phone updated: Finally worth it

The official Twitter application for Windows Phone 7/8 has finally been updated after nearly a year with a totally new UI and new features that make it worth it. Among the new goodies included are the lock screen support, pinning of any Twitter account to the start screen and most importantly a new beautifully snappy UI.

New navigation: Four new tabs – Home, Connect, Discover and Me – bring you closer to the things you care about.
•Home: View Tweets from the accounts you follow; tap a Tweet to expand it and see more content, such as photos, videos and website summaries
•Connect: Keep up with your mentions; see who has followed you or retweeted or favorited one of your Tweets
•Discover: See trends, and find new content on Twitter –– browse categories, find friends on Twitter and see suggestions for accounts to follow
•Me: Read and respond to your direct messages; see your lists, favorites and more; view and update your profile

Tweet and search icons: Compose a Tweet or search from anywhere in the app, using the new icon buttons in the Application Bar.

Live tiles: Pin Twitter accounts, lists and searches to your start screen, giving you quick access to some of your favorite Twitter content.

Windows Phone Mango Twitter and LinkedIn integration shown on video

As we all know Windows Phone 7 Mango features a new Twitter and LinkedIn integration functionality which is unfortunately not available in the current Beta 2 build but enabled in more recent builds. But if you really want to know how it exactly looks like the company has uploaded a short video interview of the Program Manager responsible for social notifications and filtering functionally of the OS. From what you will see the integration is really straight forward but we have yet to learn if we will be able to share pictures on Twitter similar to what will be offered in iOS5 or even via the Facebook integration in Windows Phone. Check out the video after the break:

Twitter integration finally works in Mango but not in the current Beta 2 build

Slow news day here…anyway, if you have been using the Mango Beta 2 Dev build and wondering what’s up with the People Twitter integration the you should be happy to know that it’s finally working. But there’s a catch: It only works in a newer build of the OS which may or may not be pushed to developer unlocked devices by Microsoft.

Speaking of beta updates, it would be interesting to know if Microsoft plans on pushing out one or more before the official roll out of Mango later this fall. As of right now most of the features seem to work without any problem besides Bing Vision which can hang or stop auto-focusing and some weird device re-boots. My only wish is that something is done to the poor UX offered by IE 9 Mobile.

Windows Phone 7 Mango to integrate Twitter photo sharing service?

Twitter’s CEO, Dick Costolo, is expected to announce a new photo sharing service tomorrow, June 1st, during the D9 conference and this got me thinking about something interesting. As you may have noticed Microsoft has yet to show and demonstrate the Twitter integration in Windows Phone Mango and when I asked the company about it during the VIP event I was told that it still wasn’t ready for prime-time and that a new OS build was expected to show up on June 1st, which is now the date of Twitter’s new photo sharing service unveiling. I may be totally wrong in my speculation but given that Mango now features, Facebook Galleries, photo tagging, video sharing it would be logical to also have Twitter’s new photo sharing services built in.

Official Twitter application for Android released

Twitter has just released the first official client for Android today. This obviously doesn’t sound to well for all other Twitter clients now that they have to compete directly with “the ream thing”. To make matters worst, the app is free and should be open-sourced shortly.

When apps work well with each other, sharing becomes as second nature on machines as it does in person. The Android platform is really good at that, and we’ve worked with the Android team to make it super easy to share what’s happening. Today we are excited to announce that Twitter for Android is available in Android Market!

Twitter for Android is a fantastic application to use, and sharing any link or photo is super simple too – just look for the share button in your favorite application and choose Twitter.

Reading tweets is easy in a bunch of places on your phone. Quickly access your timeline with the home screen widget, view a tweet location on a map, and see your friend’s latest tweet in your phonebook, GoogleTalk list or any application that uses Android’s QuickContact bar.”

The app fully integrates into Android’s native features like contacts, photo album, sharing and Google Maps. Unfortunately it only supports handsets running Android 2.1 and up (although it is reported to work on 2.01). Go ahead and download it now in from the Android Market.

Latest HTC TouchFLO 3D includes Twitter tab

Looks like the WinMo fans are getting some HTC love lately as seen in the screenshots above. Just like on the Sense UI, TouchFlo 3D now has a Twitter tab that lets you check andupdate your status without the need of any third-party app. Thanks to NRGZ28 who cooked this Manila 3D 2.6 version into one of his Touch Pro2 roms.
