Navigon for Windows Phone 7 released in the US and Europe but not at the same price

Just in case you didn’t know this, the Navigon turn-by-turn GPS application is now officially available on Windows Phone 7 in Europe and in the US. This is the 4.0 version that was announced a few weeks ago (an update from the earlier release bundled on T-Mobile Germany’s handsets).  Based on the users reports I’ve seen this app is highly recommended If you are looking for the best possible offline navigation on Windows Phone . Unfortunately there’s catch for us living in Europe: the price. The US version costs $29,99 while the European version will set you back $69.99. Nice…

UPDATE: Bad news folks.. The prices listed above are just a promotion that will end on November 15th (thanks for the heads up Joe):

In terms of map material, users have two versions to choose from: NAVIGON Europe with 44 countries and NAVIGON USA. From 11 October until 15 November NAVIGON Europe will be available at the reduced introductory price of €59.49 instead of €84.99, the US version for €25.99 instead of €42.49. This corresponds to a price discount of around 30 and 39 percent respectively. The app can now be downloaded from the Windows Phone Marketplace to all devices which run the Windows Phone Mango release.

Nokia Ovi Maps API already works in Windows Phone 7

A post on Nokia’s developer forum dated from the beginning of the month notes that the OVI Maps API will be officially supported in Windows Phone 7 Mango:

This would be good to know for the future use cases; the current Ovi Maps API will be supported in
the oncoming devices. Some changes for code may be needed, also some dedicated features may
be implmented – we will get more information and details on this during the coming months.

But there isn’t anything really new here other than the claim that it will probably be “officially” supported by Nokia because it is already working in Windows Phone 7 pre-Mango right now as seen in the Outdoor Navigation application currently available on the Marketplace and which can use Nokia’s OVI Maps (or Google Maps, OpenMaps etc..) instead of Bing maps. It’s safe to assume that everything isn’t working now and that Mango will most probably improve things. Just click here to check it out.
