Sony Ericsson Julie Windows Phone 7 prototype phone live pictures

Remember the Sony Ericsson Julie Windows Phone 7 handset that SE was said to be working on back in June ? Well, here’s apparently how it looks like in the flesh. The device will probably never seen the light of the day but we now at least know how it looked like. I personally wouldn’t count on any Sony Ericsson Windows Phone 7 handset hitting retail anytime soon after what I heard the company reps say during Mobile World Congress when the subject was brought up (one kept on trashing MS and WP7 every time somebody asked him about it..). Android and the PlayStation Certified platform is what they are betting on (remember that the Sony NGP / PSP2 can also run Android..)

Sony Ericsson still open to use Windows Phone 7. But not yet

It is a well known fact that Sony Ericsson is betting its future on Android but they apparently still have their eyes on Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7. The company keeps saying that they are open to use it but that the time has come yet. Is it for real or just PR purpose ? Nobody really knows. One thing is for sure though: they probably aren’t in a hurry to have an Xbox Live enabled smartphone alongside their soon to be launch Xperia Play PSP phone (which is totally understandable). Their parent company (Sony) has also recently decided not to launch a WP7 version of the PlayStation application (it’s out on iPhone and Android).

Sony Ericsson still in talks with Microsoft about Windows Phone 7

You may have probably seen the latest rumored Sony Ericsson Windows Phone 7 devices specs/renders this week which I didn’t post here because they look suspiciously fake too me. Sony Ericsson has always said that they will probably build a WP7 power smartphone next year but never gave any time frame and because right now Android is what they are focusing on. SE’s France’s CEO Pierre Perron told Les Echos yesterday that the company was still in talks with Microsoft about the possible use of WP7 in a futur product. Sony Ericsson isn’t really pleased about the software restrictions imposed to OEMs (the impossibility for them to change the UI) and doesn’t want to compete based on the hardware and price only:

No Sony Ericsson Windows Phone 7 device in the near future

With all the buzz that Windows Phone 7 is getting lately it’s only normal to see investors and analysts wondering if Sony Ericsson is going to launch a WP7 device anytime soon. Unfortunately Chief Executive Bert Nordberg told Dow Jones Newswires that Sony Ericsson has no plans to launch any Windows Phone 7 device before Christmas. This is consistent with what we have heard before from the company. Windows Phone 7 is on the roadmap but nothing is set in stone yet. Sony Ericsson is still heavily focusing on Android for the time being.

Sony Ericsson is still planning Windows Phone 7 devices but the focus is on Android

We have never actually heard anything about Sony Ericsson’s Windows Phone 7 plans since the Mobile World Congress in February. For the first time the company has mentioned that Microsoft’s new mobile OS is apparently still on their roadmap but that currently their focus is principally on android.

“Android is definitely our focus, but we haven’t given up on Microsoft’s Windows Mobile, despite its slow uptake. But Windows Phone 7 remains on our roadmap. However, currently we have no plans for new Symbian products.”

Sony Ericsson Julie: SE’s first Windows Phone 7 handset?

File this under the rumor category; according to an un-confirmed source, Sony Ericsson’s first Windows Phone 7 handset is codenamed Julie. The Sony Ericsson Julie is said to have a 4 inch capacitive touchscreen, a sliding qwerty keyboard and will be powered by a Qualcomm SnapDragon chipset clocked at 1 ghz. Not much else is known for now, but given SE’s current track record I wouldn’t expect to see it hit the market before 2011 (please prove me wrong SE!).
