Resco Announces support for Windows Phone 7

Good news for all Windows Phone enthusiasts. One of the best mobile development house has just announced support for Windows Phone 7. Resco, makers of the award winning Resco Photo Manager, Resco Explorer etc.. is now 100% on board of the Windows Phone 7 train. They are in the process of porting their advanced development tools to Silverlight and integrate them into Visual Studio 2010:

Bratislava, Slovakia — May 18, 2010 — Resco, a leading vendor of advanced developer components and tools for mobile devices, announces that it is working on a new suite of components for the application development for Windows Phone 7 Series.

The new suite of components will be based on the Resco MobileForms Toolkit — the most complete set of controls for mobile applications development targeting Microsoft Windows Mobile platform.

“When Microsoft announced new Windows Phone 7 Series, our customers were curious whether Resco plans to support the new Phone with the favorite controls,” said Radomir Vozar, Resco Developer Tools & Enterprise Division Director. “Windows Phone 7 Series is a big challenge for us and our plan is to provide developers with a complex set of components that will facilitate the development process for the new mobile platform.”

Since the development process for Windows Phone 7 Series is only possible in the Silverlight technology, it is impossible to simply port current controls from Resco MobileForms Toolkit to this new technology, as the current controls are developed in WinForms technology. That is the reason Resco decided to design and develop a new set of controls for Windows Phone 7 Series from scratch. On the other hand, the architecture of new components is designed to be as much compatible with the current Resco MobileForms Toolkit from programming interface standpoint as possible. This conception ensures all developers using Resco MobileForms Toolkit a seamless transition to the Windows Phone 7 Series platform.

The new Resco controls supporting Windows Phone 7 Series will be integrated with Microsoft Visual Studio 2010 and the release is scheduled for Q4 2010.

Resco Explorer 2010 released

Following the latest Beta 3 released a couple of days ago here comes the final retail version of Resco Explorer 2010 for Windows Mobile. New features in Explorer 2010 include:

•Image Upload to Facebook, Flickr, Twitter, Picasa, MySpace and Photobucket — the program is now able to upload image files to the most popular social networks including the largest web image database — Flickr.
•Thumbnails View Mode — The new view mode displays previews of images. It becomes handy (improves the navigation) while seeking in folders with many image files.
•Interaction with Resco Photo Manager — The new Explorer can utilize tools and strengths of Resco Photo Manager. If users have both of these programs installed on a device, they will sense that the thumbnail loading is faster as well as the fact that it supports all the photo manager image types.
•Totally Customizable Today Plug-in — Today plug-in gets new shape and becomes totally customizable — add or remove phone tools, applications or documents. The eventual size of the plug-in, therefore, depends only on your choices.

You can get it here for $29.95(!) or try the trial version.

Resco Photo Viewer Alpha for windows mobile Preview

Resco’s award winning Windows Mobile Photo Viewer is finally about to get a finger friendly update after many years. An Alpha version is available for download on Resco’s forums. After playing with it for a bit I took those screenshots to show you the new finger friendly menu system (with kinetic scrolling). Icons are big enough even on 2.8″ screens and everything is runs smoothly.
The only downside is the thumbnails loading which takes time (but might be faster on new Windows Mobile phones as I was using a old HTC Trinity). Photo editing, which is one of the main features of the application (it let’s you crop/resize/draw etc), isn’t available in the Alpha and the only real bug I found was that panning through a picture when zoomed-in didn’t work correctly.

some new features:
G-sensor support
Touch friendlyness
The folder shows the preview of the pictures inside it
100% zoom in and out using double clicking (zoom the double clicked area)
Thumbnail and list view and multiselection operations
Direct access to the camera
Upload to Facebook, Flickr

Try it for yourself here

Post in the comments section if you find any bugs.
