Microsoft Communicator Mobile for Nokia Debuts


It has been a while since we’ve heard any Microsoft-Nokia related news but things are slowly starting to change. Nokia has finally announced this week that Microsoft Communicator Mobile is now available on the OVI Store initially for Nokia E72 and Nokia E52. Back in august of last year Microsoft and Nokia signed a deal and form a global alliance to develop, design and market mobile productivity solutions. Skype for Symbian now available in Nokia’s Ovi Store


Skype for Windows Mobile may be “dead” but this won’t stop loyal Nokia user from enjoying it. Nokia & Skype have announced today that the IP Calling application is now available to more than 200 Million Symbian users via the Nokia Ovi Store.

Skype for Symbian enables Nokia smartphone users to:
- Make free Skype-to-Skype calls to other Skype users anywhere in the world*
- Save money on calls and texts (SMS) to phones abroad
- Send and receive instant messages to and from individuals or groups
- Share pictures, videos and other files
- Receive calls to their existing online number
- See when Skype contacts are online and available to call or IM
- Easily import names and numbers from the phone’s address book

Nokia releases Ovi Maps Racing game. Lets you race anywhere in the world!

Nokia has just made available what must be one of the coolest mobile games, Ovi Maps Racing. The game basically lets you race anywhere you want in the world just by selecting a location on the Ovi Maps data base. You can create a race track in your neighborhood for example and start racing right away. Check out the video below to see it in action:

Nokia launches new OVI Maps with Free turn-by-turn navigation in 74 countires


Here’s some big news folks, Nokia just launched their new OVI Maps navigation application featuring free turn-by-turn walk & drive navigation for its handsets. Sounds familiar? Yes Google did the same thing with Google Navigation for Android 2.0 not long ago. But this is the real deal this time around, unlike Google offering which is only available in the US and needs an active connection to work (maps are stream live to the Android device) the new OVI Maps offers support for 74 countries, in 46 languages, and traffic information for more than 10 countries, as well as detailed maps for more than 180 countries and the whole maps are stored on your device!

Nokia X6, Nokia N97 mini, E72, E55, E52, Nokia 6730 classic, Nokia 6710 Navigator, Nokia 5800 Xpressmusic, Nokia 5800 Navigation Edition, Nokia 5230

The N97 version shoud be out on Jan 28th but no news about the N900 yet.

Nokia’s OVI store is now live on the N900


Nokia’s OVI Store (the company’s application store) is now availalbe on the N900 Maemo5 smartphone following yesterday’s OTA update. Users can now access it through the browser or directly in Maemo 5 (you’ll launch the same OVI store app in either casses) and download application directly to their N900.

First Nokia N900 OTA update pushed out


N900 users should expect to see a small update being pushed to their devices in the next 24 hours according to Nokia. The update is meant to prepare the N900 for the opening othe the Maemo Ovi Store (some users are already reporting that the store is up and running..).

Nokia Ovi SDK & Ovi Navigation Player API launched

Forgot to post this yesterday, Nokia launched their Ovi SDK (beta) and a new Ovi Navigation Player API. The SDK will enable developers to code for Symbian, Maemo & web apps. Coding can be done using standard web-based technologies including HTML, CSS and Javascript. Formore information head over here.
