Microsoft finally patches Windows Phone 7 update errors

Still having update issues when trying to installed the 7008 or NoDo (7390) update on your Windows Phone 7 devices? Well, Microsoft has finally released a patch that should fix two of the most common errors encountered by some users:

800705B4: The timer ran out on what we were trying to do.
80180080: We couldn’t update your phone because your operating system might be corrupt.

You may remember that I constantly got the 800705B4 error when attempting to update to 7008 no long ago and at the time the only way to fix this was to hard-reset the handset before updating. Thankfully there’s now a patch that you can directly grab from here:

Download the Windows Phone Support Tool from the Microsoft Download Center. If you have a 32-bit system, download the WPSupportTool-x86.msi package. If you have a 64-bit system, download the WPSupportTool-amd64.msi package.

Windows Phone 7 NoDo update officially pushed to carrier branded phones

NoDo is officially a go for carrier branded phones according to several reports I’m getting in my mailbox and a phone call from a friend. Apparently all major carriers in Europe; Orange , Vodafone (namely SFR in France), 3 UK and O2 have authorized Microsoft to push the update notification to the Windows Phone 7 devices on their networks. T-Mobile branded phones in the US , namely the HTC HD7 and Dell Venue Pro, are also receiving the update notifications today.

Where’s the fixed 7008 Windows Phone 7 update for Samsung devices? Third update coming in April?

More than a week has passed since the very first Windows Phone 7 update has been pushed to end users in a staged roll out that unfortunately didn’t end up to be as smooth as envision by Microsoft. Many Samsung Omnia 7 and several Focus users were unable to install it on their phones and are still waiting for the fixed update that was said to be out by now. As of right now Samsung devices are no longer prompted to update to the 7008 OS version (not sure about other handset so if anybody can confirm that the whole process has been put on hold just post a comment below). Even thought this update doesn’t bring anything new in terms of features it is required to be installed so that the 7389 NoDo update can be installed on the device once it’s pushed out next week. French website Smartphonefrance seems to have gotten in touch with Orange who told them that as of right now the 7008 has been put on hold for the Samsung devices until the fix is found and on the LG Optimus 7 (Orange is apparently still waiting for Microsoft to clarify the situation).
