Activate the HTC Magnifier on the HTC HD2

HTCmagnifier
I’ve already talked about the HTC Magnifier feature that showed up in the first Manilla 2.5 ROMs that leaked this summer, unfortunitely HTC decided to disable it in the lastest builds (probably to re-enable later when WM6.5.1 gets out?). There’s a simple way to bring this features back with just a little Registry editing:

Change “HKLM/Software/HTC/TextSelection/EnableMagnifier” from 0 to 1

Latest HTC TouchFLO/Sense has iPhone-like copy & paste

WooO looks like Apple fans are going to have a field day with this one. The way copy/paste is managed in the latest version of HTC‘s TouchFLO/Sense UI for the HTC HD2 is exactly the same as on the iPhone (minus the magifying glass). This can only be a good thing though given that Apple’s implementation is one ofthe best I’ve ever used. Wonder what happened to to the HTCMagnifier though, I guess that if will be availble once the new version of Windows Mobile 6.5 is released.

Latest buid of Windows Mobile 6.5 tries to improve stylus-free usability

It looks like Microsoft is still actively developing WM6.5 post RTM in parallel to Windows Mobile 7 (I don’t know if it’s a good idea or a waste of time) . For example as you can see in the following screenshot the close (X) has now been place on the lower left (It doesn’t look good at all IMO) : Screen02s

Another change is the media player intégration into the lockscreen (now that’s a nice looking improvement):

Screen6506s

The last screen shows the system wide magnifier which is activated with a double-tap just like the one used by HTC (my guess is that the HTCmagnifier will probably look nicer and used OpenGL es):

Screen6505s

My only hope is that all theses changes are in-line with what the Windows Mobile 7 team is doing. It would be totally useless to continue changing WM6.5′s UI if a few months later Windows Mobile 7 comes out with a totally/radically different UI design in my opinion.

Capacitive screens coming to Windows Mobile

Following rumors that HTC is coming out with Windows Mobile smartphone sporting a capacitive screen. A reader tipped WMPoweruser with the following screen of a new WM 6.5 build 2193 showing what seems to be a magnifier popping up to help the user select text just like on the iPhone.

People may have passed on this one, but the latest TouchFlo 3D 2.5 has a new setting screen :
