Is the MyTouch2 aka MyTouch Slide the HTC Espresso ?

The HTC Espresso was at first rumored to be an HTC Hero with a sliding-keyboard, it was then thought that Espresso was maybe only the name of the new updated Sense UI on Android. Now it looks like it is indeed a new Android smartphone with a sliding keyboard according to the picture posted over at DroidDevelopers. Strangley the screen looks kinda small and the reflection suggest that it’s resistive instead of capacitive. It is apprently called the MyTouch2 or MyTouch Slide (headed to T-Mobile US).

Sprint’s HTC Hero & Samsung Moment will get Android 2.1 update not 2.0!

Android 2.1 htc hero
Remember a few days ago Sprint announced via Twitter that the HTC HEro and the Samsung Moment will receive an Android 2.0 update in early 2010. Well it looks like theyr wrong and in a good way! HTC just announced (via Twitter again..) that Sprint‘s HTC Hero will will getting an update to Android 2.1.

Anybody notice the clarification from @sprint? Hero on Sprint will not be getting 2.0…it will get 2.1 :)

Update: the Samsung Moment will also get Android 2.1:

Slight clarification on Android OS updates for the HTC Hero & Samsung Moment. Will be updating straight to Android 2.1, not 2.0, in 1H2010.

Higher resolution HTC Legend render

htc_legend
Nothing really new here just a higher resolution render of the HTC Hero successor the HTC Legend. The highlight is obviously the replacement of the trackball by an optical touch sensor (like on the Omnia, Xperia X1/2 etc) and the higher clocked chipset (MSM7227 which is basically the same old thing as the MSM7201 unfortunately).

HTC Espresso is an HTC Hero with a sliding keyboard ?

HTC Espresso
File this under the rumor category: According to the info above found by Tweakers.net the HTC Espresso (a code name found is the latest HTC Android roms) is a an HTC Hero with a sliding keyboard. As you can see it sports similar specs (the same screen resolution, same CPU etc..). If it is indeed true the Espresso would be HTC second Qwerty Android device (the first being the HTC G1/Dream).

HTC Droid Eris to receive newer Android version update and Google Navigation

Droid Eris
According to HTC the Verizon Droid Eris is going to updated to a newer version of Android and Google Navigation early next year. It remains to be seen if this is going to be Android 2.0 or something else. Now that Google Navigation is out on Android 1.6 it is possible that the Droid Eris will only get a newer 1.6 build. But Android 2.0 or higher is still a possibility now that we know that Android 2.1 ROMs are already out in the wild for the HTC Hero.

HTC Droid Eris reviewed

HTC Droid Eris review
The fanboys over at Gizmodo just posted a short review of Verizon‘s HTC Droid Eris. Don’t expect anything really bad to be said given that it’s still the HTC Hero underneath (and it’s not Windows Mobileremember). The Hero is still the best Android device IMO, thanks to the Sense UI and cheap price. The Motorola Droid is obviously higher spec’d but HTC’s Sense UI really makes the difference IMO. Don’t forget that the Hero/Droid Eris will also be upgraded to Android 2.0 in a few weeks/months.

I’ve already covered HTC’s Sense UI in depth, and it is the exact same on the Eris. It runs just as fast as the Sprint Hero, if not a teeny bit quicker. I will say that after using Android 2.0, it does feel like a step backward in some ways, mostly because of the single Google account limitation. But HTC’s confirmed Android 2.0 is coming, so it won’t be an issue for every long.
