HTC Desire HD, Desire Z, Desire and Incredible S to receive Android 2.3 Gingerbread update in Q2 2011

Good news for all the current and future HTC owners who are eagerly waiting the official Gingerbread update for their device. HTC is said to be working on releasing it for the HTC Desire HD, HTC Desire Z, Desire and HTC Incredible S in Q2 2011.

“We are excited to announce that the HTC Desire HD, Desire Z, Desire and Incredible S will receive the Gingerbread update in Q2.”

The wording of the news isn’t really clear and I’m not even sure if it’s the original Desire or the upcoming Desire S which is going to get the Android 2.3 OTA update. It would definitely suck if the HTC Desire didn’t get it given the fact that it’s essentially an HTC branded Google Nexus One. On the other hand I would be surprised if the upcoming HTC Desire S didn’t receive the update either. An official statement from HTC is definitely need to clarify the situation (like a press release..).

HTC Mozart and HTC Desire Z receive certification

Today is the HTC Mozart (also known as the HTC 7 Mozart) and HTC Desire Z turn to be certified by the Global Certification Forum. There’s noting really newsworthy here other than the list of radio bands supported by both devices and the fact that the HTC Desire Z can apparently travel in time (notice the certification date…)

HTC Desire Z Specifications

No surprises here folks, the just announced HTC Desire Z features nearly the same hardware specifications as the HTC T-Mobile G2 recently unveiled in the US (the G2 has 4Gb of internal ROM). The only new info is that the screen is SLCD and definitely not AMOLED. The Desire Z will run Android 2.2 and feature HTC’s newly revamped Sense UI alongside the http://www.htcsense.comservice. Both the HTC Desire Z and HTC Desire HD will launch on Vodafone in Europe next month (October 13th for the Desire HD) Specs after the beak:

Official HTC T-Mobile G2 / Desire Z specifications

Tomorrow is going to be a big day filled by HTC’s event and the launch of Internet Explorer 9 Beta (I’ll be present at the event at the Microsoft Campus). Even-though the G2 has already been announced a few days ago HTC has just posted the official specs sheet of the device today. The G2 will probably known as the Desire Z in Europe and Asia/Pacific so this will give you a pretty good idea of what you can expect from tomorrow event in London:

T-Mobile G2 officially announced

T-Mobile is officially announcing the T-Mobile G2 Android handset today. The G2 also known as the HTC Desire Z is the first commercial device to feature Qualcomm’s MSM7230 chipset (which is now part of the SanpDragon family) clocked at 800Mhz. It will be interesting to check out the performance of the device given that it packs an Adreno 205 GPU and also an improved video decoding/encoding block. The G2 is equipped with a 5MP camera (with flash) and can shoot 720P videos similar to all the high-end devices currently on the market today. No word on the screen panel used but don’t be surprised if it’s a S-LCD panel at first at later AMOLED once Samsung finally catches up on the manufacturing side. Android 2.2 is obviously the on board installed on the internal 4Gb of ROM (the device will ship with a free 8gb Micro-SD). The device will be available for to pre-order later this month for $199 with a 2 year contract and $499 without. Check out the full press release filled with lots of HSPA+ talk after the break:

T-Mobile officially confirms that the G2 / HTC Desire Z has an MSM7x30 clocked @ 800Mhz

Contrary to yesterday’s bogus specifications T-mobile has now officially confirmed that the T-mobile G2 aka HTC Desire Z features the new Qualcomm MSM7x30 chipset clocked at 800Mhz (with the new Adreno 205 GPU inside). As I said a few days ago, it will be intesrting to see if HTC uses this SoC or if it will stick with the more convetional QSD8x50 (or even jumped directly to the QSD8x50A) for it’s first batch of Windows Phone 7 devices.

T-Mobile G2 / HTC Desire Z specifications ?

It looks like the official press shots of the  HTC Desire Z / T-Mobile G2  have leaked alongside a weird specs sheet that doesn’t seem to match the info that is present in the current leaked ROM:

•Android OS w/ HTC Sense
•3.7? Active Matrix OLED display
•1 GHz Snapdragon Processor
•Landscape slide-out QWERTY keyboard
•5MP camera with autofocus.
•3G HSPA+
•WiFi + Hotspot capabilities
•aGPS
•Bluetooth 2.1 + Enhanced Data Rate

Remember that the  ROM reveales that the Chipset powering the device is an MSM7x30 and there’s no Sense UI at all on the G2. The 5MP camera is surprising given that HTC’s high-end devices now pack an 8MP sensor… What’s posted above is nothing more than the specs of the HTC Desire with an added keyboard…sounds kinda bogus to me. More at the September 15th event I guess..

The T-Mobile G2 aka HTC Desire Z will feature a Qualcomm MSM7x30 Chipset

A leaked T-Mobile G2 aka HTC Vision / Desire Z reveals that the chipset powering the device isn’t a regular QSD8x50 Snapdragon but the new MSM7x30 that was introduced at MWC in February. The MSM7x30 is part of Qualcomm’s SnapDragon family of products (but strangely isn’t branded Snapdragon) as it packs a similar CortexA8+NEON clocked at 800Mhz but has the newest Adreno 205 GPU instead of the Adreno 200 found in the QSD8x50 platform. The MSM7x30 basically fits between today’s QSD8X50 and the upcoming QSD8X50A (CortexA8 @ 1.3Ghz + Adreno 205). It will be interesting to see if HTC is also going to uses this platform in the upcoming Windows Phone 7 devices (HTC Schubert, Mozart,Gold etc…).If you remember, the leaked HTC Mondrian Rom indicated that the mysterious device had an QSD8X50A. You can read more about the Adreno 205 here.

T-Mobile G2 aka HTC Vision Desire Z in the wild

One more leak for the day. This time it’s the T-Mobile G2 aka HTC Vision aka HTC Desire Z. The device is obviously owned by the same person who just leaked Samsung Cetus shots (the picture were taken on the same desk / table). Nothing to fancy that we haven’t seen before, the design and colors look a bit similar to the recently seen HTC Schubert / Mozart. The T-Mobile G2 is obviously an Android powered device and should feature the same specifications as all the current high-end Android handsets on the market (Snapdragon SoC at 1GHz, 3.7″ screen etc..) . More pictures after the break:

The HTC Ace will be the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Vision the HTC Desire Z

According to the picture above from Vodafone’s stocks system the HTC Ace will retail in Europe as the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Vision will be the HTC Desire Z. You will also notice that the new batch of HTC Desires with the SLCD screen are referred to as the HTC Desire Super TFT. HTC is expected to announce a couple of new products on September 14 so we will have to wait a little bit before getting any confirmation.

HTC Vision in the wild again and headed to T-Mobile as the HTC G1 Blaze

We already knew that the HTC Vision was going to be on T-Mobile’s rosterthis fall and the picture above finally confirms it (see the T-mobile logo?). According to Engadget’s tipster the Vision will probably be known as the G1 Blaze when it finally hits retail later this year. Nothing new has been spilled though. The 3.7″ screen will either be AMOLED or SLCD and the qwerty keyboard definitely looks spacious enough to be usable. Good to see Android devices with hardware keyboards after the avalanche of touchscreen only devices in the past months. The HTC Vision / G1 Blaze will go head to head against the Motorola Droid 2 and Samsung Epic 4G.
