Video hands-on with the HTC Desire HD Rom on the HTC HD2

I’ve just finished shooting a short hands-on video of the recently released HTC Desire HD Rom for the HTC HD2. You will see that it runs relatively smoothly (it isn’t super fast but no slow either) and that all the major functionalities of the OS are up and running. I should point out that the browser is still buggy and crashes 90% of the time on my HTC HD2 after a few minutes (I can no longer load any page on pan/zoom/navigate). Wifi still isn’t working (on my handset) and the Camera isn’t supported either (but the flash works). Also keep in mind that it takes a while to boot the OS for the first time (nearly 10 minutes and that it isn’t supper responsive afterwards either (it can sometimes take up to 10 secs to come out of sleep when I hit a hardware button). The Battery is drained super fast too. Check it out after the break:

HTC Desire HD Rom for the HTC HD2 released and video walkthrough

This is bloody awesome especially for all the HTC HD2 users out there who just can’t stand Windows Mobile 6.5 anymore. DarkStone1337 over at XDA-Devs has just released a modified HTC Desire HD Rom (the one leaked earlier) for the HTC HD2 and posted a 14 minutes long video showing the whole thing in action. Some features are currently broken but you can see that it’s already running smoothly as if it was on an HTC Desire HD.

HTC Desire HD build for HTC HD2 by darkstone (Beta 2):

Easier to list whats NOT working:

- Camera (app closes itself)
- Ebook reader (E-Books do not open)
- Ringtones (Unable to select a ringtone, get a force close error)
- Video playback from SD card is slow, needs rectifying
- LED Notifications are bizzare, sometimes they work and sometimes they don’t

// Creates a 1gb data.img (takes a long time to make on first boot, be patient. No, the HD2 has not crashed despite what the screen looks like! Wait 10 minutes or so.)
// Don’t worry about FB console not showing, that’s normal
// This shouldn’t really be considered as a build for daily usage, still experimental

// Copy the Android folder to SD card, run CLRCAD.EXE and haret.exe on your HD2

Check the video after the break:

HTC Desire HD Specifications

HTC has just officially unveiled the HTC Desire HD which can be simply described as the European version of the HTC EVO 4G (without the Wimax Radio) because the hardware specification of the device are identical (besides the SLCD panel). Update: Well it looks like the device apparently features the new MSM8255 SoC (with the Adreno 205 GPU)! This will hopefully be the chipset used by HTC for the Windows Phone 7 devices. Similar to the HTC Desire Z, the Desire HD will also be sporting Android 2.2 with the new Sense UI once it hits retail (and Vodafone) on October 13th. One of the newest addition is the face Recognition feature implemented in the camera software like the original HTC Desire ( Dobly and SRS surround sound + DLNA have also been added) but I guess that this will also finds it way in the US devices sooner or later. Specs after the break:

HTC Launch Event on Spetember 15th

HTC is now sending out invitations for a press event on Spetember 15th taking place in London. Remember I already talked about this event last week (here and here) and speculated that this will mainly be about Android devices. Now check out the invitation above really closely and you will notice the HTC Desire HD hinding in the fume effect (you can clearly see the camera in the middle). Stay tuned…

HTC Desire HD revealed in video

Looks like my Italian folks at SoloPalmari are on roll today. After posting the first ever video of the HTC Schubert WP7 handset they have also revealed the HTC Desire HD in all its glory in a similar video. The device looks nearly identical to the HTC HD2: same port placement with the micro usb and head-phone jack at the bottom, same Dual-LED flash next to the camera but has capacitive touch buttons similar to the HTC EVO 4G. Unfortunately there’s no HDMI-out in sight which is rather disappointing for a device with HD in the name (and can record 720P video). Check it out below:

The HTC Ace will be the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Vision the HTC Desire Z

According to the picture above from Vodafone’s stocks system the HTC Ace will retail in Europe as the HTC Desire HD and the HTC Vision will be the HTC Desire Z. You will also notice that the new batch of HTC Desires with the SLCD screen are referred to as the HTC Desire Super TFT. HTC is expected to announce a couple of new products on September 14 so we will have to wait a little bit before getting any confirmation.

Rumored HTC Ace specifications?

Nothing confirmed at all here, just some raw specification of an upcoming high-end android smartphone from HTC called the HTC Ace aka HTC Desire HD:

HTC Desire HD (Ace) Features and Spec:

•1 GHZ Qualcomm Processor
•Android 2.2 OS
•HD 720p Video Capture
•Xvid Video Playback
•SRS Surround Sound
•Automatic Face Tracking
•Adobe Flash 10 Support
•4GB Internal Memory (up to 32GB)
