HTC pushing out Firmware updates for its Windows Phone 7 devices ?

According to several HTC users who  have updated their handsets via the ChevronWP7.updater, the Zune software is now showing the availability of a what seems to be a firmware update. OEMs obliviously have the ability to push specific updates to some of their models via the WP7 update system but what’s kinda strange here is that only phone’s updated with the previously mentioned method are being notified of this update.I know that some HTC devices already had their Firmware (radio rom included) updated as part of the NoDo update package so maybe this is related (the weird update method may have prevented the phone from receiving the full update so they are now getting the rest of it?).

UPDATE: Microsoft just confirmed what I tried to guess:

But my strong advice is: wait. If you attempt one of these workarounds, we can’t say for sure what might happen to your phone because we haven’t fully tested these homebrew techniques. You might not be getting the important device-specific software we would typically deliver in the official update. Or your phone might get misconfigured and not receive future updates.

How to quickly get NoDo on your carrier branded HTC Windows Phone 7 device

Don’t want to wait for your carrier to allow your HTC Windows Phone 7 to receive the NoDo update? Well here’s a little trick that can help you bypass this restriction (Telus in Canada has for example stated that it won’t roll out NoDo before March 29th at the earliest). C. Walshie from the ChevronWP7 team give’s us all the info:

Get the Sprint HTC Arrive for $49.99 now

The HTC Arrive is now finally no longer on pre-order and finally available for only $49.99 on a 2year contract. It obviously doesn’t support WiMAx but if you are on Sprint and really want a Windows Phone 7 device (full review of the OS here) then this one’s for you. It also feature the best hardware keyboard I have ever seen on a mobile handset to date (it’s a shame though that WP7′s current landscape support isn’t better).

Sprint HTC Arrive now available for pre-order

Sprin’t HTC Arrive, which is the first CDMA Windows Phone 7 device is now officially available for pre-order at Amazon for $149.99 with a 2 years contract. The HTC Arrive is essentially the CDMA version of the HTC 7 Pro currently available in Europe and has one of the best hardware keyboard on a mobile device. The only issue being that Windows phone 7 doesn’t have really good landscape support right now.

Sprint HTC Arrive aka HTC 7 Pro announced. Launching March 20th for $199.99

The first CDMA Windows Phone 7 handset finally has a release date. Sprint has just announced the HTC Arrive which is be essentially the CDMA version of the HTC 7 Pro already released in some European countries. The Arrive will be available on March 20th for $199 after mail-in rebate on a 2 year contract. Head over here if you want to compared the full hardware specifications of the device compared to all the other Windows Phone 7 handsets. Full press release after the break.

Sprint HTC 7 Pro to be announced on February 24th

Sprint has apparently outed the upcoming February 24th announcement date of the HTC 7 Pro via its official twitter account just a few hours ago by mistake and then erased all trace of it. The device which has already been released in some European countries is the second Windows Phone 7 device to feature an horizontal sliding hardware keyboard and from what I saw last week at MWC this is shaping up to be the best keyboard ever on the landscape device.

Enable Tethering on HTC Windows Phone 7 devices

As you have probably already noticed by now I usually only post about things that I personally think are worth talking about (that’s the beauty of having my own blog..) and this is why you won’t see me talk about every single homebrew Windows Phone 7 application popping up. Unless it’s something I think is really important like enabling tethering on HTC’s Windows Phone 7 devices. So if you have a developer unlocked device (you know..if you actually paid the $99) or if you just unlocked yours with the ChevronWP7 unlocker (which will definitely be rendered useless after the first OS Update) here is how to finally enable USB Tethering on an HTC Windows Phone 7 handsets:

HTC 7 Pro and HTC Gratia officially coming to the UK in February

HTC has just issued a press release officially announcing that the HTC 7 Pro which was just released in Germany and the HTC Gratia budget Android handset (also known as the HTC Aria on AT&T are handed to the UK next month. Even with it’s lower price point one has to wonder who is going to by such a low speced Android device now that more powered ones are available for nearly as much. Anyway, full press release after the break:

HTC 7 Pro now available in Germany and on Pre-Order in the UK

As previously announced, the HTC 7 Pro is now available in Germany on O2 and also up for pre-order in the UK with an estimated shipping date of February 10th. The HTc 7 Pro (se the specs here) is the second, commercially available, Windows Phone 7 handset with a vertically sliding hardware keyboard (the first being the LG Quatum / Optimus Q). Unfortunately I personally think that Windows Phone 7′s landscape support is currently not that great so I would suggest you to try the device first hand for a little while before laying down the cache to get it.

GSM HTC 7 Pro launching in Europe in January

Still waiting for a Windows Phone 7 device with a horizontally sliding hardware keyboard? Well if you are in Europe then you have no other choice than wait until next months when the GSM version of the HTC 7 Pro is supposedly launching (the LG Quatum / Optimus 7 Q is scheduled to launch EU yet). O2 Germany has already posted its product page with an availability date of January. In my opinion Windows Phone 7 still has a long way to go before being fully usable in landscape mode (I will talk more about this in my upcoming in-depth review of WP7). Check out the device’s hardware specifications here.

Sprint opening HTC 7 Pro pre-orders to Microsoft employees on November 8th

Looks like you are out of luck if you are a regular Joe mooking for a Windows Phone 7 phone these days. After the disastrous October 21 launch, the PDC freebies and 86000 devices hand-out to Microsoft employees last week it seems apparent that you have to work for Microsoft if you want to get your hands-on a WP7 device lately.  Today’s news is that Sprint is supposedly only going to allow Microsoft employees to pre-order the HTC 7 Pro on November 8th according to the latest rumors. Nice…

The HTC 7 Pro hits the FCC ?

A CDMA Windows Phone 7 HTC handset (PC93100) has just  passed the FCC certification.Based on this info alone it is safe to assume that this device is probably the HTC 7 Pro which is the only WP7 CDMA currently announced and scheduled to launch on Sprint in 2011. Not much else is known but keep your fingers crossed for more HTC 7 Pro news in the coming days.

The HTC 7 Pro is headed to Europe early next year

Contrary to want was originally thought the HTC 7 Pro that was announced yesterday isn’t going to be only launched in the US after-all. HTC has just confirmed that the device will also be available in Europe early next year. I wouldn’t be surprised if it even was available here before the US launch. Now lets hope that the HTC 7 Surround is also headed to the old continent too..

HTC announces Five Windows Phone 7 handsets

Just in case you didn’t follow today’s big news here’s HTC press release announcing their five (yes FIVE) Windows Phone 7 devices: The HTC HD7, HTC 7 Trophy, HTC 7 Mozart, HTC  7 Surround and HTC 7 Pro. Four of these devices will launch on October 21 with only the HTC 7 Pro launching next year on Sprint. Not all of them will be available world wide thought. The HTC 7 Surround, and HTC 7 Pro are currently only scheduled to launch in the US and the HTC 7 Trophy will only launch in Europe and Asia. One thing is clear though; every Windows Phone 7 device announced today features the same basic specification (the Qualcomm SnapDragon QSD 8250) so you won’t see any major difference at all between them. Full press release after the break:
