Foursquare and Flixster updated for Mango with new Live tile features

Two of the most widely used Windows Phone 7 applications have just been updated to support Windows Phone 7.5 Mango today. As you can seen the picture above the official Foursquare application and Flixster now include new Live Tile related features and most importantly fast application switching for proper multi-tasking support. You can update or simply download them right now from the marketplace if you are running Mango on your Windows Phone handset.

There’s are still tons of applications that have yet to be recompiled or updated for Mango and I personally hope that Microsoft has asked all major developers of successful apps to do it and that every Xbox Live game will also be updated in time because Mango is upon us now.

New official Foursquare and Vevo applications released

The official Foursquare application for Windows Phone 7 is now back in the Marketplace after a major update. The UI is now totally brand new and one of the best on any Windows Phone 7 application out now. Most of Foursquare services and features are now supported in this V2.0 version and did I tell you that UI was awesome? Just download it from here.

The official VEVO music video streaming application is now also available on Windows Phone 7 (US only AFAIK). If you are a big fan of music video then this application is a must have. The video quality is surprisingly really good (but this may have something to with my device running Mango though..).

Official Gowalla client for Windows Phone 7 released

The official Gowalla client for Windows Phone 7 has been released today. There was already a third party client which was released a few weeks ago but the new official one is pretty good to. UI, UX and performance are top notch and this is something we are starting to see more and more in the recently released WP7 applications. The application also lets you connect with Foursquare (its main competitor), Twitter, Facebook and tumblr.

Gowalla for Windows Phone 7 is available for free right here.

4th & Mayor is not the official Windows Phone 7 Foursquare app

There has been a lot of confusion regarding the status of the official Windows Phone 7 Foursquare application which has disappeared from the Marketplace a few days ago. The Link to the original applications now point to Jeff Wilcox’s awesome 4th & Mayor application so people assumed that it replaced the original app and became the official app for the platform.

4th & Mayor Windows Phone 7 Foursquare application completely trashes the official one

What does Microsoft’s Jeff Wilcox do on his spare time? Develop the best Foursquare application for windows Phone 7 and show everybody about developing in Silverlight for WP7 should be done. Jeff is a Senior Engineer on the Silverlight Windows Phone team and will have a talk about titled “Analyzing and Improving Windows Phone Application Performance” at next month’s MIX11 event. But the best you could do right now is actually try 4th & Mayor yourself and enjoy the best Foursquare UX on Windows Phone 7. I’ve shot a short video of the application in action that you can watch below:

Foursquare and Seesmic released on Windows Phone 7

Two of the most anticipated social apps have now been released on the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace. I’m talking about Foursquare and Seesmic. Both applications are obviously free of charge and can be downloaded on any WP7 device. The Foursquare application seems to feature everything you can expect to find in it but Seemsic apparently still lacks Push Notifications and Landscape support (but obviously includes full Twitter and Facebook integration). Interestingly it seems that a lot of developers are rushing their applications out of the gate to be among the first in the Marketplace which means that you will  encounter a couple of “unfished” apps at first. I’m also currently thinking about what to do with the release of the MobileTechWorld Windows Phone 7  application. There are stilll a few features that I haven’t implemented yet so I’m debating whether I should release it now and update it later or wait untill I’m feature complete before submitting the application.

New Foursquare application for Windows Phone 7 shows up

You probably already know that a Foursquare application for Windows Phone 7 has been open sourced and is freely available for download since March but apparently the team at Clarity Consulting is working on an other one (the official app?) and things are looking quite good based on the pictures that have just been posted on Twitter:

Full source code of the Windows Phone 7 Foursquare application released

Awesome news for all Windows Phone 7 Series developers tonight. Microsoft/Touchalitly just released the full source code of the Windows Phone 7 Series Foursquare application that was demoed during the MIX event a few weeks ago.

We consider this to be an alpha release, even though everything works, but mostly because we need to clean up the code to follow standard patterns and best practices for Silverlight and Windows Phone 7.
When you only have a few weeks to get the application done “Copy and Paste” become your friends. Look forward to a much cleaner release soon.

You can download the package over at the codeplex website here.

Foursquare for Windows Mobile finally available

Touchality (a Windows Mobile dev house) has just release the beta version of FourSquare for Windows Mobile handsets. The application is called WinMoSquare and all you have to do to get it is to submit you email here.

The app is only available for touch screen Windows phones today. The .NET Compact Framework v3.5 is a pre-requisite for you to be able to run the application on the phone. You’d also need a phone that runs either Windows Mobile 6.1 or a Windows Mobile 6.5.
