Flickr for Windows Phone updated for Mango with new features

The official Flickr application just received a major update containing lots of new features specifically implemented for Mango. Loading performance is now also vastly improved so it’s a win-win situation. Here’s the new features  list:

- Take high-quality photos directly from the in-app camera.
- Share the story behind your photo with titles, descriptions, comments and tags.
- Share photos only with the people you want with easy privacy settings.
- Full screen browsing and slideshows for your photos, your contacts’ photos or any of the public photos from the global Flickr community.
- See the most interesting Flickr photos, galleries and photos around you with our Explore module.
- Pin additional Live Tiles to your Start screen for quick access to the in-app camera, contacts’ activity, and your photostream.

Flickr for Windows Phone 7 updated: black screen issue finally fixed

It took a little while but the guys behind the Windows Phone 7 Flickr application have finally released the 1.4 version of the app that definitely fixes the super annoying black screen bug that prevented it from launching 90% of the time. This update also includes small performances and stability improvements. The application can still be sluggish especially when downloading and displaying tons of thumbnails but this will unfortunately only be “fixed” once Mango is released later this year. The latest version of the OS will include an improved Listbox crontrol that will allow smooth scrolling in 3rd party apps and background image decoding (off-thread) that will prevent the UI thread from stalling when images are downloaded and processed.

Flickr for Windows Phone 7 updated again: Bug fixes and performance improvements

The official Flickr application for Windows Phone 7 application has just been updated again to version 1.3 with the following changes:

- Fix problem with blank screen during start-up phase for some users.
- Fix for application error when sharing from media hub with a large number of photos.
- Background photos on home panorama now change from time to time.

It should also be noted that infinite loading/scrolling of images in the pivot is now improved (it’s faster) and it looks like the newest Bing Maps control is now being used (I could be wrong though). There are still a few bugs here and there (and performance can still be improved quite a bit) but things are getting better with every release.

Flickr for Windows Phone 7 updated with ability to download images

The Windows Phone 7 Flickr application has just been updated with the ability to save and download images to your handset. There are still a few bugs like the inability to upload pictures directly from the pictures hub if the folder where the desired picture is located contains tons of other images, but this should hopefully be fixed in an upcoming update which will also bring  more performance improvements to the UI.

Flickr for Windows Phone 7 update with Picture Hub integration and major performance improvements

I just landed back from Mobile World Congress and to my surprised a new version of the Windows Phone 7 Flickr application was being pushed out to my device. If you didn’t try it yet after watching my hands on video couple of days ago then you should waste no time and go grab it right now. The development team did an awesome job after the initial release to vastly improve the applications performance and fix the major bugs I encountered. They’ve all also added the ability to directly share your photos with the application through the Windows Phone 7 Picture hub.  Now if only other big name applications (IMDB, AP news..) were fixed as rapidly the Marketplace woud be even better.Grab it right here.

Flickr for Windows Phone 7 video review

Yahoo has finally released the official Windows Phone 7 Flickr application just 3 days after the initially announced launch date. The application is obviously free to download in the Marketplace right now and is in my opinion one of the most feature rich WP7 application to date. The only problem is that it’s really slow at fetching thumbnails data from the cloud and not really responsive (like the vast majority of the WP7 applications). It also doesn’t run under the locks-screen which is really annoying (especially when you are uploading photos…). I really hope that Yahoo will work on an update to fix the error message, improve the UI performance and that Microsoft is planning on seriously improving Silverlight on WP7 in the coming months. Anyway, check out the 8 minutes long video after the break:
