HTC confirms Diamond2, Touch Pro2 & Snap WM 6.5 update with new and improved TouchFLO UI

htc
According to the German boys at AreaMobile, HTC has confirmed that the Diamond 2, Touch Pro2 & Snap will get a free upgrade to WM 6.5 and new  TouchFLO UI (probably the same as the one seen in the leaked roms here). What I wonder now is, if does devices (TP2 & Diamond2) get the new TouchFLO UI what are the Leo & Firestone going to bring to the table besides improved hardware ?

HTC Qilin aka Dopod T8388 TD-SCDMA phone to be launched in China

sj_dpd_t8388
Remember the HTC Qinin ? Well it’s actually the HTC Qilin (Dopod T8388) and it looks like the source of the previous story got it all wrong. This is kind of a strange phone, a mix of HTC Leo and Whitestone if we believe the specs and the pictures. Looking at the pictures we can assume that it has a resistive screen (it has the ZoomBar unlike the HTC Leo and Firestone). It is said that it will have a TI OMAP 3430 CPU (same as on the Palm Pre) clocked @ 600Mhz which is unusual for an HTC phone (who’s been only using Qualcomm chipsets lately). It will also sport a SIRFstar GPS chip (normal givin’ that the aGPS chip is usually part of the Qualcomm SOC), it will also have a CMMB-TV receiver. It is expected to launch in China around November 15.

Model: Dopod T8388 (HTC Qilin)
Type: PPC (non-QWERTY keyboard)
Platform: Windows Mobile 6.5
CPU: TI OMAP 3430 600MHz
ROM: 512MB
RAM: 256MB
Display: 3.6 “WVGA (480×800)
Frequency: GSM; GPRS; EDGE; TD-SCDMA
Network: Wi-Fi 802.11g
GPS: SiRF (GPS / AGPS)
Main Camera: 5 million pixels; auto-focus camera, front: VGA
Features: gsensors; light sensor; proximity sensor; CMMB mobile TV

China Mobile (NYSE: CHL; 0941.HK) officially confirmed today that Dopod’s Qilin handset meets the telecom operator’s “flagship handset” requirements.

Dopod CEO Dennis Chen said the Qilin handset is the first result of China Mobile’s RMB 47 mln in subsidies to encourage TD-SCDMA handset development. Dopod has expanded investment in manpower and funding towards TD-SCDMA R&D and will release numerous high-end TD-SDCMA handsets next year.

The Qilin handset, jointly developed by Dopod and China Mobile, is currently one of the most high-end TD-SCDMA handsets available. Equipped with Windows Mobile 6.5, it is expected to reach the market in Q4 2009.

HTC LEO/Firestone to have capacitive screen ?

More HTC rumors are coming our way these day. About the HTC Leo/Firestone (it’s still not confirmed that the Leo = Firestone though) this time. Air.rs is claiming to have the specifications of this mystery device.

Quad-band GSM/EDGE connectivity
Dual-band HSDPA 900/2100 MHz
4.3″ WVGA (480 x 800) capacitive touch screen
320Mb of RAM + 512MB of ROM
Wi-Fi, GPS, A-GPS ,BT+EDR
Light and Proximity sensors & Accelerometer
5Mx autofocus camera with 2X LED flash
MicroSD card
3.5mm jack
1230 mAh battery
121 x 67 x 11 millimetres

Real or Fake ? You decide. For my part I’m having my doubts. If you remember a few months ago the following specs leaked : htcdevicespecs

The Firestone aka Star is/was supposed to have a 3,6″ screen and a SnapDragon chipset clocked @ 600Mhz. Those Leo specs look to be closer to the HTC Toth IMO. Other than that I know for a fact that HTC may be working on a capacitve WM6.5 device to be released this fall (this info came straight out of a Samsung rep I met more than a month ago). So the Leo and Firestone a 2 diffrent devices.
