Dell to replace its 25,000 employees BlackBerrys with the Dell Venue Pro

Things are going to get heated in the smartphone business sector this fall. Dell is apparently planning to move its 25,000 employees from BlackBerrys to Dell Venue Pro Windows Phone 7 handsets in the near future:

“Clearly in this decision we are competing with RIM, because we’re kicking them out,” the computer maker’s chief financial officer, Brian Gladden, said in an interview.

Dell is going to offer its employees the choice to switch to the Venue Pro or an other Dell Android phone (probably the Del Venue aka Dell Thunder once it’s made official later this year).

Dell Venue Pro hands-on. Coming to Europe before 2011 ?

I’m slowly trying to catch up with all the Windows Phone 7 news that I didn’t have time to post yesterday and the one thing that I definitely have to talk about is the Dell Venue Pro aka Dell Lighting. Unfortunately this device isn’t scheduled to launch everywhere so it wasn’t present yesterday and that’s why you didn’t see a hands-on video of it from me but it will apparently launch in the UK before the end of the year. As it is usually the case big blogs got some early hands-on action with the device prior to the announcement (yes it sucks for us smaller blogs when it comes to early software / hardware access). The Dell Venue Pro looks a lot like the Dell Thunder Android smartphone that the company is scheduled to launch in the coming months. The 4.1″ Gorilla Glass curved WVGA OMLED screen, Snapdragon chipset etc. The major difference here is the inclusion of a vertical sliding keyboard which will surely please a lot of hardware keyboard fans. You can expect the same performances on the Venue Pro as on all the other WP7 devices unveiled yesterday so the choice will boil down you your carrier and hardware/Form factor preference. Video and pictures after the break:

Dell Lightning Windows Phone 7 Super Smartphone leaks

Wow, this came out of nowhere. Engadget just got the hands on some internal slides of Dell’s upcoming Windows Phone 7 handset: the Dell Lightning. The lighting features a portrait sliding qwerty keyboard, a 4.1″ OLED screen, 1G Rom of internal Flash, 512Mb of Ram and 8Gb of storage on a Micro-SD (weird given that micro-sd aren’t supposedly allowed on Windows Phone 7..). A Qualcomm Snapdragon clocked at 1ghz is also on board. Check out the slides for the rest of the info. The device is expected to launch in Q4 2011 with full flash/silverlight support in the browser (this info is definitely old/wrong). As you can see the Bing application shown in the slides is actually the iPhone version, also it’s actually the Zune HD interface you see there and the OS is still called Windows Mobile 7 instead of Windows Phone 7, so I wouldn’t be surprised if the slides were a couple of months old (dating before WP7′s announcement at MWC10 in Feb 2010).
