Nokia Lumia 900 rumor

Another day goes by and another rumor is sees the light of the day. This time it’s the return of the mythical Nokia Ace now dubbed the Nokia Lumia 900 which is said to be nothing more than a Lumia 800 with a 4.3″ screen (CBD AMOLED) instead of 3.7″ and only US bound (early 2012) and will be running Windows Phone Tango. Chances of this being true ? I don’t know but let’s thinker a bit here… a 4.3″ WVGA AMOLED display would look like crap unless it’s has an RGB matrix which is currently exclusive to Samsung in the form of the Super AMOLED Plus panel used on the Samsung Galaxy S II and Samsung Focus S. Now, given that Samsung is also the manufacturer of the AMOLED panels on Nokia’s devices it’s safe to assume that this rumored Nokia Lumia 900 sports a PenTile Matrix panel. But why wouldn’t it have an RGB panel you say? Well like I said; Samsung is keeping it to themselves for now on (it’s one of the main selling feature for their SII and Focus S phones) and even Motorola got handed a crappy 4.3″ QHD PenTile panel for their top of the line Razr handset.

More surprising things have happened before so maybe this Nokia Lumia 900 is indeed coming soon with a super amazing AMOLED panel or maybe not. Where’s my salt?

If I remember correctly, when Samsung released the original Galaxy S they weren’t selling their 4″ Super AMOLED to anyone else. However, when they came up with with the new and improved 4.27″ Super AMOLED Plus display, they started selling their previous generation display to mostly Nokia to feature on their E7 and X7 as well, while keeping the keeping the newest technology for themselves. Samsung has now developed the HD Super AMOLED display, currently at 4.65″ featured in the new Nexus and at 5.3″ or something featured in the Note. Super AMOLED Plus is no longer their newest display and thus they should be able to sell it to Nokia while keeping the newest technology (HD Super AMOLED) to themselves. Don’t really know what happened with Motorola but my guess is that Samsung didn’t have their HD display out yet, and since Nokia and Samsung are in some sort of partnership with Nokia being it’s biggest display buyer, having featured Samsung’s earlier AMOLED displays on the N8, C6-01, C7, then the Super AMOLED displays on the E7 and X7, and possibly now the Super AMOLED Plus display on the rumoured 900. I mean, we all know it was only a matter of time before Nokia would feature it on their phones, so now that Samsung have HD S-AMOLED all to themselves, there really is no reason why they couldn’t pass on the S-AMOLED+ display to Nokia.

Plus, I live in the UK and was really hoping for Samsung to release a Omnia S or a European version of the Focus S with a 4.3″ S-AMOLED+ display. Really disappointed and since hope is the last thing to die, I’m hoping Nokia will release the rumoured Flagship device to save us European WP lovers from the sole rule of the only high end device in Europe, the Titan…

Not sure why you think a 4.3″ AMOLED screen would look like crap, been using a Dell Venue Pro and it has a 4.1″ AMOLED screen and it looks fantastic. Seems a strange reason to think lack of access to Samsung tech would make a big screen Nokia AMOLED device impossible.
