New Samsung Omnia 7 Firmware Rom available: I8700XXKC1 XXKB2

A new Samsung Omnia 7 firmware has just been leaked a few minutes ago and is available for everybody to download. The I8700XXKC1 XXKB2 is said to include NoDo but not much else is known about it yet. I’ll will try to flash my Omnia 7 device with it in a few minutes a report back to you.
The only downside to this is that the phone will be hard reset so all the personal info (SMS,MMS, installed apps, pictures etc) will have to be re-installed after the rom is flashed.

Update 1: The Firmware is dated March 24th so it’s safe to assume that it probably includes the 7390 version of the OS.

Update 2:

- Firmware version is now: 2424.11.3.1
- Radio Software version : 2424.11.2.2
- Bootloader: 5.3.0.4

BTW, the firmware includes the 7389 NoDo version of the OS but you will be prompted to update to 7392 on the first boot (that’s why you see 7392 in the picture above).

Will post more later once I finish setting up the device.

Update 3: FYI the only way to fully update the firmware is to download the previous one and copy the CSC file into today’s firmware directory. If you don’t do this you will only be able to update the Radio and Bootloader.

Update 4:
- The capacitive buttons are now disabled if the screen is touched so that you can no longer accidentally exist an app/game while playing (this feature is also present in the latest Samsung Focus firmware).
- Data connectivity and performance (GSM and WiFi) seems to be improved with this new Radio rom. Content is fetched faster from the web.

Please can you write short status reports, *#1234* and settings > info?

  • http://twitter.com/derbrotkasten TDA

Can’t wait for new update complications thanks to the new firmware.

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

Will do ass soon I flash it (currently charging up the battery cause its level is too low for the flash to succeed)

  • guest

What battery level would you recommend?

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

Over 70% is always recommended (the update process doesn’t even start anyway if it’s below IIRC).

  • Anonymous

Yet, there’s still no leaked ROM for the Samsung Focus

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

Well, the Samsung Focus did get a Firmware update with Nodo, unlike the Omnia 7.

  • Anonymous

Right, but the Focus doesn’t have a ROM. There’s no way to start over if something goes wrong.

     anything new on the changelog?

In this new firmware there isn’t csc file. It’s a problem ?

What does “FLASH LOCK” mean? Phone has been updated to I8700XXKB2. PDA and CSC hasn’t been updated?!

  • http://twitter.com/EDDSfkoff Rick Dodkins

If anyone has flashed the new firmware can they confirm which country this is set to as default?

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Leonardo-Michelin-Salomon-Garavelli/729007580 Leonardo Michelin-Salomon Gara

That’s what I would like to know!

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

Default language was English (UK) but you can change it during the setup process when you first boot up

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

You will have to use the previous CSC (copy it in the folder and load it into the Samsung program) to load the PDA (Software) into the phone cause all you did right now is update the Radio rom and bootloader.

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

     That’s true :-(

  • http://www.facebook.com/b16bkostas Kostas Petropoulos

any improve on 720p video? do not flash only the bootloader and radio because on my country i have very bad signal… so must be new driver on OS from samsung.. to be compatible with new radio..

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

No changes to the 720P video capture as far as I can see.

  • http://www.facebook.com/b16bkostas Kostas Petropoulos

still laggy? do you know if is laggy also on hd7 or other wp7?

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

I wouldn’t say that the end result is “laggy” (the viewfinder is really laggy though for sure) but yeah it still has some weird shutter speed issue that make the resulting videos seem a bit jerky.
Other device don’t have a laggy viewfinder (and the end video is smooth) but the quality is total crap. Check out my Youtube channel to see a couple of video comparison between the Omnia 7, optimus 7 and HTC trophy (or do a search here to find the relevant posts :)

    Cheers

  • Ccmd_232

My Omnia 7 came preloaded with the FW Version: I8700XXKJ1 when I bought the phone, and the CSC Version is I8700TPHJK1, which does not seem to be there on samfirmware, so is it ok to use another CSC file just to load the new Firmware?

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

What’s your device language? If you don’t mind using it in English just grab the ENJK1.

  • http://www.facebook.com/people/Leonardo-Michelin-Salomon-Garavelli/729007580 Leonardo Michelin-Salomon Gara

well, I did install myself finally. The language is English UK by default and the country settings are Netherlands. But I wonder if this has to do with “Amsterdam, etc, etc”  in the time settings. Network profile shows lots of networks from different countries. I was on XENJK1 before and it only showed Dutch networks pluss mine, so this is definitely something else.

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

What are the networks showing up for you? In my case it’s all of my countries carriers and MVNOs plus 4 Netherlands carriers and one Russian. With the previous Firmware the app showed only the 3 major carriers here IIRC. This may have something to do with the updated Radio though.

  • Ccmd_232

I’m using it in English already. Thanks :) , I’ll give it a shot later today.

  • Quicky

Flashed mine. The capacitive button fix is a very welcome change.

  • Bisshmal

Anyone else notice that when you search for contacts it comes up with “Search (Windows Live) Directory” ?? I have not seen this before

  • Quicky

Yeah, couldn’t tell you if that was there before though. Does it do anything for you? I just get a “Couldn’t complete search” error.

I can’t get to download mode. I see the Samsung Omnia 7 logo then the “phone-usb-computer” picture. What to do?

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

You unfortunately can’t access download mode if your device currently runs the 4.10.1.9 bootloader.

  • Anonymous

     It’s 4.11.0.3 with JK1 firmware.

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

Strange.. So when you press Volume up + Camera Button + Power button (or directly plug the device into the USB instead of pressing the power button) your phone boots and shows the USB connection screen?

  • Anonymous

Exactly. I really don’t understand it.

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

Weird. Did you ever flash your device before ? Is your device T-Mobile branded or not ?

  • Anonymous

I bought this one 3 days ago, it’s unbranded and carrier free. Zune updated it to 7392 immediately, but now I’m trying to flash this new firmware onto it. No luck… :(

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

You bought it brand new not second-hand right?

  • Anonymous

Yes, the Samsung Electronics sticker was intact, I opened it myself.

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

Ok. If you definitely can’t access download mode your only solution would to get yourself a USB Jig (modified micro-usb cable). It’s only a few $.

  • Anonymous

I know the procedure, but this is exactly why I checked the firmware version _before_ I walked out the store. I can’t believe how a company like Samsung can be this amateur when it comes to device support. :(

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

Well, flashing the rom this way is against the warranty so we can’t really blame Samsung for that (it’s possible that they have modified the bootloader on the latest retail devices to prevent users from doing this). Official firmware updates shouldn’t be a problem though because they are done via the Zune software (they already done it with the Samsung Focus).

  • Anonymous

I’m on 7392 so not complaining, but I would really welcome the capacitive button disabling feature. What do you think, is there any chance this firmware will be released officially by Samsung?

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

I hope so and I find it surprising that it hasn’t been done yet because this firmware is dated March 24th. Kinda surprised that the Focus got it and not the Omnia 7. Most users are still stuck with the original firmware which packs a totally crappy radio rom.

  • Anonymous

Yes, this is what I ment when I said Samsung sucks at support. Oh well, we’ll see. Thanks for your help, I didn’t consider that it could be an intentional “update”. Anyway if they don’t release it before the end of the month, I’m going to get a jig.

  • Leoms

Several from Iceland, Norway, Netherlands, Denmark, Sweden and Finland. Not all the networks have a Country code or a brand I recognize, so some could be from other countries too.

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

Ok, then it must have something to do with the Radio and the sim inserted in the device cause I don’t see the same networks as you .

  • Bexmax

    Hello!

Concerning the Update 3, i haven’t received or done any updates on my phone yet, so I was thinking that do I have to go through the Update 3 process or I can skip it and go on with the rest? Does this update mean that it contains all the so far released (including the recent official 7392) updates? I still haven’t received the notice for 7392 update, so should I wait for it (since it was said it will be expanded to the rest of operators on Tuesday-tomorrow) or proceed with this?
    Thanks a lot!

Btw, this is the version of my phone:
    OS version 7.7004.0,
    Firmware revision number: 2424.10.10.4
    Hardware revision number: 3.15.0.4
    Radio software version: 4.10.1.2
    Chip SOC version: 0.36.2.0

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

Is you phone carrier branded ?

  • Bexmax

If you are referring to whether I’m stuck with an operator then NO. :)

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

Your device is most probably carrier branded (carrier modified firmware) or else you would have already
    received the updates.

  • Bexmax

I forgot to mention that I have successfully installed the recently released patch which should allow 7392 update… but when I connected to the Zune and run the update, it says that the phone is update though remaining under 7004. I also reset the phone few days ago just wanted to make sure nothing comes across.

Another thing, I’m in a country (Kosovo) which I think is using an unlisted operator (i think). Can this be the problem? If not, any instruction on how to solve the issue?

    THANKS A LOT!

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

Well, the easiest way for youto be up-to-date would be to flash this firmware (using the ENJK1 CSC of the previously leaked firmware). But keep in mind that this is against the manufacturer warranty.

  • Bexmax

Thanks a lot! I’ll try to figure out that somehow :) .

    Thanks again!

  • Bexmax

One more thing, is the following link describing what you are suggesting I should do???

    http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2011/01/01/new-samsung-omnia-7-rom-available-and-samsung-i7850-omnia-8-coming-soon/

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

You will have to download both firmwares (the one leaked this weekend and the older one linked in the post you just linked). You’ll also have to download the update tool, drivers and instructions (all are on Samfirmware).
Once you have everything extract the new firmware into a directory thenextract the CSC file of the previous firmware into this directory…and follow the instructions of the PDF.

  • Bexmax

    Hello again!

I am doing everything as instructed. Among the listed firmwares, I downloaded the ENJK1 CSC (as instructed above) and the recent ones, and extracted them all in one folder.
I also installed the USB driver and launched the updating tool and running it by following the PDF instructions file.

I’m now at the stage when the phone is under download mode and I need to drag-drop the files at the update tool on the PC in order to proceed, but the files are different and there are more files comparing to those described in the instruction PDF file. I’m not sure which one to place where? Should I just copy all of them and copy in the both columns?

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

When you click on the Phone/Eboot/PDA/CSC icons and navigate to the directory where the 4 files are located only the relevant file will be selectable.

  • Bexmax

You are a King man! I did it! Got the 7392 on!
THANKS for milion times, wouldn’t have never made it without your help!

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

You’re welcome :-) Enjoy your device!

  • http://twitter.com/sidneyXda Sidney Raymon

i called *#1234# and it says  session terminated.  Did this happen to you?  also where can i find the CSC file? ive looked at the site , but i just dont know which one  is the right one . Can you give a link to it please?

  • http://twitter.com/sidneyXda Sidney Raymon

NODO is finally here on my Omnia 7! woohoo!
didnt end up doing anything manually, just saw the messages to update and let it happen.
At one stage i was thinking of buying a Omnia 7 jig, to gte it in download mode.  Im glad i never succumbed to the chevron hacking route. Thanks for keeping us informed Mobiletechworld!  your site has kept me updated :)

  • Onlymark86

Sorry but if I install this firmware how can I re-install my sms/mms?

  • Ccmd_232

Just finished flashing my phone with new ROM. Process went buttery smooth. Thank you for the heads up and for the guidance you provided. Amazing as always!

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

    You’re welcome :)

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

You mean :Backup your SMS/MMS and restore them after flashing?
Unfortunately you can’t. You will start from scratch after you flash the firmware.

  • http://www.mobiletechworld.com MobileTechWorld

You’re Welcome. thanks for the support :)

  • Ryansimmons

You need to download the I8700XENJK1 firmware and copy the CSC file to the new KC1 folder. Then use WP7 Downloader to update. This updates the PDA.

If you dont add the older JK1 csc file, it wont update to the newer PDA.

  • Bor_g888
