Microsoft Poland sends out fruity May 24th event invites for Mango unveiling

Microsoft Poland sure knows how to make use hungry for more Windows Phone info. The Polish PR team is now sending out invite packages for the May 24th Mango event containing a real Mango fruit. This is definitely better that the regular mail invite that most of the worldwide press received. I will cover this event live next week and make sure to shoot tons of videos if we are allowed to go hands-on with the new OS so don’t forget to Follow me on Twitter for more updates and info.

I’m excited for Mango, and I’ve been excited about Windows Phone 7 since the beginning, but the pessimism of late surrounding the Gartner Q1 sales estimate is wearing me down. If I, a Windows Phone developer convert, am feeling this way about the platform, how must the developers that are on the fence feel?

If the sales are way higher, MS needs to come right out and say a definitive figure. If they’re in the ballpark, man do they have a lot of work to do. I just hope they don’t give up on it prematurely. 6 months in, sales aren’t exactly stellar. Let’s see what the landscape looks like in 1.5 to 2 years.

Nice one! Android 3.1 can’t have something similar. The thing will simply melt. LOL.

Microsoft is in it for the long haul but they can’t seriously think that they will be able to compete with Google and Apple with the currently crappy PR and non-existent Marketing campaign. They better wake up soon and I hope that next weeks event will be the first step in the right direction.

You are attending right? If you are can you please find out anything about a backup solution for WP7, even a My Phone equivalent. I like to keep my texts and favourites and constantly having the threat of losing them because of my faulty dell venue pro is really decreasing my enjoyment of WP7. In fact at the moment I am using my HD2 running 6.5 because I know at least I can back those items up. Thanks.

I’ll try to find out but knowing the MS team here I’m fairly sure that they, sadly, probably don’t even know the answer. Will let you all know if I find something about this.

Ok, thanks. Thing is it seems only by constantly harping on them do they ever give an answer, and having no way to backup a device is a pretty big omission. Sometimes the only way to solve a problem is a hard reset then you have hours to spend getting your device back to the state it was in. And the auto install from Zune is both a blessing and a curse, it will download everything you ever installed from there and that means demo and apps you may not want to use any more then you have to go and clean your device. A pretty poor experience all round in that respect.

I hope they will allow to manage those apps that reinstall automatically when you use a phone with your Windows Live account  in a smart cloudy way.
