Windows Phone 7 7392 security update pushed out

The recently rumored IE Mobile certificate security update for Windows Phone 7 is a go. The OS version is 7392 and some users are apparently now receiving the update notification on their devices as seen in the screenshot above. As with all previous updates (and future ones); this one will require the Zune desktop software. This update package also includes all the previous NoDo features like copy/paste and faster app resume.

Update: Here’s a picture of Dave’s HD7 after the update (he’s on O2 in the UK):

Update with the description:

Fix for fraudulent third-party digital certificates. This update includes a critical fix to an industry-wide issue with nine untrusted digital certificates that were issued by one root certificate authority. These third-party digital certificates are used to access popular websites and email portals. Although this is not a Microsoft security vulnerability, these untrusted certificates may be used to spoof content, perform phishing attacks, or perform man-in-the-middle attacks against all web browser users. This update moves the affected certificates to the “Untrusted Publishers” certificate store on Windows Phone, which helps ensure that these fraudulent certificates are not inadvertently used.

Apparently only HTC,  LG and the Samsung Focus  devices are getting the update for now. Samsung Omnia 7 on the other hand…

Thanks for the tip and pictures Dave!

I have a HTC 7 Trophy from Vodafone Spain, and I have to say that they’ve been pretty good with the updates; in final-february i got the 7008, and in the beginning of april then was the 7390, and now today, 7392 :) 3 updates in 6 months: Android cannot say the same. Sorry my bad english lol

Samsung owners are going to have to wait though… This update is only being pushed out to HTC and LG devices right now.

The Omnia 7 was “the device”, i mean a very beatiful device with a big and good screen and a nand memory, the best wp7… but with all the problems it has with the updates, i think it was worth to give a chance to htc.

    Daou,

On a different note, what happened with Disqus comment support for WP7 IE Mobile? I can no longer comment, because Disqus says that I need to update my browser or Flash. This sucks.

You must be joking. wp 7 even couldn’t do simple copy and paste when it came out, if they don’t update their stupid OS, they won’t get a place in mobile world. hopefully their update won’t brick your phone :D
    sorry about my BAD English.

IE Mobile on NoDo seems to be busted. Do you see the ads displayed on this site? Ever since I updated IE Mobile no longer displays Google Adsense ads on WordPress blogs and Javascript no longer works on several sites.
