First Windows Phone 7 update released: Not NoDo

The First Windows Phone 7 update is being pushed out today but it isn’t the one you have all been waiting for:

What’s in this update?
This first update for Windows Phone is designed to improve the software update process itself. So while it might not sound exciting, it’s still important because it’s paving the way for all future goodie-filled updates to your phone, such as copy and paste or improved Marketplace search.

In the future, I encourage you to check out our new update history page on the Windows Phone website for a brief, plain-English summary of what each update does or what features it adds to your phone.

When will I get this update?
We’ll begin sending it out today. But to help ensure the process goes smoothly, it won’t be sent to everyone at once. So you might see an update message before your spouse, co-worker, or neighbor (or vice versa). This is a common industry practice. That said, we understand you’re eager to have the latest software on your phone, and our goal is to deliver it to you as quickly as possible.

So just hook up you device to you PC and check the update feature of the Zune Desktop if you can wait until the push notification is pushed to your device.

UPDATE: First Windows Phone 7 update fail folks. It doesn’t seem to work on most Omnia 7 devices and gets stuck at 100% on the backup process (Step 7).

beats the pants off of Android’s messy updates! Now, if Microsoft could be a little better with their communication.

Great news for WP7 owners (and future owners)! This sounds like a solid plan by Microsoft to ensure that users do not experience any issues when the subsequent updates are released. NoDo is right around the corner!

What up with the “NoDo” naming convention? “NoDo” has a similar vibe like “Nova” (doesn’t go).

NoDo = Not Doughnut – I think (A dig at a food based naming convention of another leading phone OS)

If there trouble they’ll know now, so when the NoDo update is started they will know what to expect.

No update available for my HD 7, even when I check in the Zune software. Do they have to notify your device before you can install the update?

Same here. Zune says I’m current.

Could you tell us if this update brings improvment for the pen tile matrix of the Samsung amoled display?
Is dithering in browser and picture viewer enabled by this update? we could dream about this “specific high priority oem software”…

    Thanks a lot

This update doesn’t bring anything new or fix any existing issue AFAIK. It still remains to be seen if Samsung or Microsoft will attempt to “fix” AMOLED banding issue in the future especially now that Samsung has unveiled its new RGB Super AMOLED Panels http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2011/02/17/super-amoled-vs-super-amoled-plus/
