Super AMOLED vs LCD outdoors visibility comparison: Omnia 7 vs Optimus 7 vs HD2 vs Galaxy S

Here’s  a follow up to my previous Super AMOLED vs LCD comparison (and here) this time comparing the outdoors visibility of both screen technologies on the Samsung Omnia 7 and Galaxy S for the Super AMOLED and the LG Optimus 7 and HTC HD2 for the TFT LCD. There are lots of pictures (after the break) and all where shot with the brightness set to the same settings on all devices (some are  shot with it set to auto and others to full brightness) so it’s a really an apple to apple comparison. As you will see the Super AMOLED is just a tiny bit better that the LCD on the Optimus 7 (the difference is more noticeable in real life thought) but the HD2 is just a giant mirror compare to the other devices (the HTC HD7 has exactly the same screen btw):

I guess both have the same theme settings. It’s shocking how different the colors end up on the different technology displays.

Yup both are set to Purple. The difference isn’t has big in real life thought (compared to what comes out i the pictures). But, yeah the Super-AMOLED has a color GAMUT that is too wide. So the colors don’t look super natural..

Thanks for this much wanted comparison. However it was not made properly. ALL the pictures above were taken at an angle. It is well-known that LCD screens have bad viewing angles compared to Super-Amoleds. It only natural that the weakness becomes even more pronounced in direct sunlight.
Please update the post with picture(s) showing the devices at 0 degrees (place the devices vertically so that sun rays still fall directly on them).
Thank you again, waiting for more :)

They were taken at an angle because that was the only way to do it without having the camera and me reflecting on the screens and also projecting a shadow. It ain’t easy… I’ll shoot some more soon with the HTC 7 Trophy (but I probably won’t have the Optimus 7)

I’d also like to add that according to my information the HD7 screen is NOT the same one used in the HD2 and this is also the case with the Evo 4G (the first two iterations of the device had inferior screens compared to the third iteration).
Personally i’ve placed an order for HD7 here in Greece but i have a few days to change my mind. Do u think the Omnia 7 is a better phone? Please advise us :)
    Thanks

They do have the same TFT LCD screen according to what HTC told me and what I saw with my own yes when I compared it to my HD2: http://www.mobiletechworld.com/2010/10/11/htc-hd7-hands-on-preview/ Even the capacitive digitizer is the same (with the dotted matrix that is visible under certain lightning angles..). Only the Mozart and Trophy have the newer SLCD panels (and even then, HTC seems to be shipping Trophy devices with regular TFT panels to…). THis doesn’t mean that it’s a bad screen at all. Colors are much more natural than on the Omnia 7.
