T-Mobile HTC Schubert / HTC HD7 pictures revealed

Here’s what looks like the T-Mobile’s HTC Schubert aka HTC HD7/ HD3 which is supposedly launching on November 17th in the US. You will notice that the device features a slightly different design compared to the other shots with have seen before (this one seems to have a speaker grill under the three capacitive buttons at the bottom of the device). This version of the device will apparently also feature 16GB of internal storage (compared to 8GB on the European version).

A minimum of 256Mb of ram is required to record and playback HD Video on a Windows Phone 7 device

As I’ve already pointed out several times in the past weeks there’s no way to natively playback HD videos on Windows Phone 7 devices unless it’s a HD video (720P) directly capture by the phone’s camera. Every-time you want to copy / sync an HD video to your Windows Phone 7 handset  (via the Zune desktop software) the file will be automaticaly transcoded to a 800×480 file  for played back on the phone. On the other hand, if you capture an HD video with the device the video will normally played back without any problem on it (it will obviously be downscaled to fit the WVGA screen, but this is done on the fly by the hardware scaler and doesn’t affect the video file). Microsoft has now officially noted that only devices with a minimum of 256Mb of Ram will be capable to this. Thankfully there isn’t a single WP7 handset with less that 256MB of Ram so there’s no reason to be worried.

Angry Birds and Tap Tap Revenge coming to Windows Phone 7 ?

There’s nothing official but thanks to Tasos for pointing to this tiny screenshot found on the newly launched Windows Phone 7 portal that shows two of the most successful mobile games as now being present on the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace : Tap Tap Revenge and Angry Birds. this could obviously just be a mock-up picture but I wouldn’t be surprised if Microsoft manged to get both of these applications on board for the the launch of the platform. Ebay application has already been confirmed a while ago.

Windows Phone 7 supports non-removable SD cards, LTE and WiMax

Microsoft has just made available a huge Windows Phone 7 FAQ / How-To website that basically describes every single features o f the new mobile platform. One the most interesting nuggets is the little section dedicated to SD Cards. It has long been know that Windows Phone 7 won’t support removable SD-cards and this makes it clear that even if the SD  cards found in the device isn’t soldered on the PCB and can be removed you just can’t replace it with an other one:

Some Windows Phones have a Secure Digital (SD) card that’s used to expand the amount of storage space on the phone. If your phone has one, it’s in an SD card slot underneath the battery cover on the back of your phone.

Windows Phone uses a special high–performance SD card that works differently than SD cards in other devices. When your phone is built and first set up, its internal storage and SD card are combined and recognized as one storage system.

Warning

You should not remove the SD card in your phone or replace it with a new one because your Windows Phone won’t work properly. Existing data on the phone may be lost, and that SD card can’t be used in other devices or Windows Phones.

New Windows Phone 7 portal Launched: Samsung Focus launching on AT&T on November 8th

Microsoft has apparently launched it new Windows Phone 7 portal by accident and featured the US launch date of November 8 and the actual retail name of the Samsung Cetus launching on AT&T. The Cetus is going to be officially called the Samsung Focus as previously leaked and is definitely launching in early November in the US. Unfortunately Microsoft was quick to delete all this info which is now nowhere to be found on the portal.
