Samsung Cetus SGH-i917 Windows Phone 7 handset revealed

Looks like Samsung’s first Windows Phone 7 handset is going to be the SGH-i917 aka Samsung Cetus according to the BlueTooth SIG. The Cetus will apparently feature a 4″ AMOLED (or super-AMOLED) display a 5Mpix camera, a front facing camera etc…:

Samsung Cetus is a smartphone based on Microsoft Windows Phone 7 . It uses 800×480 4.0″ AMOLED with full touch screen, and it has 5MP camera and secondary VGA video call camera. Other features include SMS (threaded view), MMS, e-mail, instat messaing, HTML, Inter Explorer browser, Stereo FM radio, GPS, Bluetooth technology, Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, and microUSB v2.0.

We should expect the device to launch this fall.

No Super AMOLED?, this phone better come with a Super AMOLED screen. And a 5MP camera?. Even the Taylor, the demo WP7 demo phone has an 8MP camera.

If this phone doesn’t come with a Super AMOLED screen , then I’m definitely getting the Dell lightning or an HTC phone for sure.

My guess is that it will be a Super-AMOLED panel. All of Samsung’s latest offereings have one. The Panel on the Cetus will probably be the same as on the Galaxy S (same 4″).Also remember that the Galaxy S has a 5Mpix camrera too.. This SGH-i917 will basically be a Galaxy S with a SnapDragon instead of the Hummingbird SoC.

I agree with arash, since Samsung is releasing its WP7 after Windows Phone 7 launch & debut (with LG Panther), they then will be allowed to release their Cetus with Hummingbird on board. Yaaaaay and please add SuperAMOLED! :)

Only Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets are certified to run Windows Phone 7 and nothing else. The Samsung Taylor has a SnapDragon chipset and the Cetus will have one too (I’m 99% sure of this). WP7′s drivers aren’t even finilized yet for Qualcomm’s stuff so don’t expect Hummingbird, TI OMAP devices in the near future.
