Firefox for Maemo RC1 released

To start of the new year Mozilla just released the RC1 of Firefox for Meamo so all you lucky N900 (& N810) user cantry it out. You can check out the changelog here.

To help bring in the new year, Mozilla has released the first release candidate of Firefox for Maemo. If you’ve already got beta 5 installed on your N900 or N810, you will be receiving a software update shortly. Otherwise, if you’re viewing this on your device, you can install it from here.

As always, we’ve provided unbranded Fennec desktop builds on Windows, Mac, and Linux. You can use these if you don’t have a Maemo device or to aid in addon-on development.

We’ve improved text rendering, added new hooks for add-on developers, and continued to polish the application. We’ve addressed many N900 specific issues, including installing to /opt and the fixing the symbol picker.

Head over to http://firefox.com/m to download it.

Motorola Shadow / Mirage: Android or Windows Mobile ?

A recent render of a supposedly new Motorola smartphone named Motorola Shadow / Mirage has been leaked yesterday. According to the leaker it’s not known yet if the device will run Windows Mobile or Android. The Shadow is said to feature an 8Mpix camera, HDMI port, 1080p encoding a 4.3″ FWVGA (854×480) touchscreen and is only 9mm thick. What do you guys think; Android or WinMo (if it’s WM, with those specs it can only be Windows Mobile 7, especialy given that Moto skipped WM6.5 and will only develope WM7 devices)?

HTC retracts HTC HD2 WM7 Twitter “announcement”

I think that this move isn’t going to surprise anybody (given that Microsoft didn’t even officially announce WM7 yet), but HTC Russian posted the following a few hours ago:

Unfortunately, the tweet regarding the WM7 upgrade for the HTC HD2 was posted in error and is unconfirmed at this time.
As always, we evaluate upgrades to ensure the best possible experience for our users and will be keeping you up-to-date.

Well, we atleast know that HTC is currently working on WM7 on the HD2. See the original tweet here.
