Update on HTC HD2 Camera Issue: Software related

Well it now looks like HTC‘s support is making a u-turn and is claiming that the HD2 camera issue is software related and that a HOTFIX is currently in the works. We will have to wait a see. Hopefully this time it is true and all HD2 will be fixed soon.

Hi Mike,

We can confirm that this issue has been determined as a software issue.
The developers are working on a hotfix to resolve, and it will be released as soon as possible.
There is not a specific date for the release as yet, please continue to monitor the support pages for the release.

    It’s obvious that HTC cannot afford such a financial loss by replacing at least the camera modules, if not the whole device, and, after they quicly reacted with “yeah, we’ll replace the camera” stuff, then they realised that the costs will pretty much cancel some of the profits, and preferred to patch the firmware with some color-bias picture enhancing algorithm that CAN provide the same result, but that can and will do damage in some other picture related issues. Let’s see if the extracted RAW data will reveal the bodge…

    I don’t buy into this being ‘Software related’.
    If you take a look at the relevant xda web site topic that is covering this you will notice they have an extensive list of members who have purchased the HD2 that show the fault.

    What makes the disbelieve with it being software orientated is the fact you have differing ROM versions with the same defect (so you can’t shift the blame on a particular ROM).

    Then, and more importantly you have differing users with the same ROM but not all have the problem.
    So how can you then establish this as a software issue??

    Just to be clear I’m not establishing that it’s a software issue, just reporting what HTC is saying. If you check all the HD2 news in here you’ll see that I always thought (& still) that it’s probably a hadware issue (maybe something to do with the plastic cover in front of the lens?)

    No one doubts what you mention here.
    When I say the wording ‘you’, I mean that in a collective term… as in all visitors reading the site, not as in an individual.

    I take it by that you mean you too have the same problem.
    Which ROM version is it?
    I have the early ROM 1.43.405.1 (70124) WWE and on that it is very bad.
